Hamas-lovers run wild in NY; Torres predicts violence By Ed Weintrob Although genocide-supporting, intifada-spreading, Hamas-loving, traffic-stopping vandals continue to rampage through the streets of New York in unrestrained displays of hate, no one’s been seriously hurt. But that might change. “The time of violence or assassination of a congressmember is not a question of if, but a matter of when,” said Rep. Ritchie Torres, the gay, Black, Latino, Progressive Democrat from the Bronx who is one of Israel’s staunchest backers in Congress. Torres delivered his warning during an interview with the Riverdale Press following a trifecta of antisemitic
vandalism that targeted congressional offices — Torres’ office in Fordham, the Pearl River office of Hudson Valley Republican Rep. Mike Lawler on Dec. 27, and the office of Harlem Democratic Rep. Adriano Espaillat. “Most members of Congress like myself have no security,” Torres told CNN. “We’re soft targets. I worry that intimidation and incitement to hate could easily escalate into violence.” “This is the life we have chosen,” he said, paraphrasing the character Hyman Roth in Godfather II. “I accept the burdens that come with political and public life [and] I try not to stress over it.” Meanwhile, supporters of the Hamas terrorist regime

No Arab peaceniks: The ‘shalom’ ‘salam’ divide Bennett Ruda recently interviewed Harold Rhode, who for 28 years was an adviser on the Islamic world to the US Department of Defense. He is now a distinguished fellow at the Gatestone Institute. Q: Do all signatories to the Abraham Accords, Arabs and Israelis, see the Abraham Accords the same way? A: We Jews want people to love us. And the peace we’re looking for is that you’ll stop fighting, and we’ll stop fighting, and everyone will live
Interview highlights essential facts together in peace. But the Muslims do not have a concept like that. They won’t stop until the whole world will be Muslim. They follow what their prophet Muhammad did. He signed a 10-year ceasefire with Quraysh. After two years, Muhammad realized Quraysh had weakened — so he attacked them, and won. There is a classic Latin phrase, “Bellum omnium con-
tra omnes, pace inter omnes interpellatur,” that war is the natural state of man, interrupted by periods of peace. We don’t look at life like that, but historically most people do. From a Muslim point of view, they can agree to have relations with their enemies — whether they be Muslims, Jews, or anybody else. They can make temporary agreements just like their prophet did.
Harold Rhode.
Those agreements can be renewed, renewed and renewed. But to think that the Saudis see peace the way we Jews see it is a pipe dream. In 1949, after Israel’s War of Independence, there was a peace conference in Rhodes. The Arabs insisted the borders be called “ceasefire lines” and not borders. The situation was not set in stone. Arabs do not have the concept that when the fighting is over, we can be friends. If we think we will have a peace agreement with See Understanding on page 4
Amid war, olim keep coming
Making aliyah in 2023.
Yonit Schiller for NBN
Nefesh B’Nefesh, together with the Ministry of Aliyah and Integration, the Jewish Agency for Israel, Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael and JNFUSA, has helped more than 700 North American immigrants move to the Jewish state since Hamas’s Oct. 7 terrorist attacks, NBN announced on Sunday. More than 200 olim landed at Tel Aviv’s Ben-Gurion Airport in the last week of 2023 alone, the organization said. Nefesh B’Nefesh received 4,175
aliyah requests from individuals and families during the last quarter of 2023, up from 1,985 during the same period a year earlier. “Our olim never cease to amaze us as they prove their commitment to fulfilling the Zionist dream of making Israel their home,” said Tony Gelbart, co-founder and chairman of Nefesh B’Nefesh. “In light of the significant surge in aliyah submissions, we are entering 2024 with optimism and, together with our partners, are pre-
pared to welcome every individual who chooses the State of Israel with open arms,” Gelbart said. “The significant number of new immigrants to Israel during the Iron Swords war and the tremendous increase in requests to open aliyah files are an important demonstration of Zionism and a beautiful expression of solidarity,” said Minister of Aliyah and Integration Ofir Sofer. “Together with our partners at the Jewish Agency for Israel and See Olim keep on coming on page 2
