rrow Exterminating is a family owned business founded in 1947 by Irene and Bernard Stegman. It is one of Long Island’s largest pest control companies with over 850 years of experience among employees. Their expertise is greatly in demand; Arrow has been cited on NBC and ABC and has received numerous awards and honors over the years. Among these accolades, it’s been cited by New York Magazine as “Best Pest Control Company in metropolitan New York,” named “MVP for Small Business” by the Long Island Association and honored as “Best of Long Island” by the Long Island Press. In addition, Arrow is being honored by the Deer Park School District for their pro bono assistance in resolving a bedbug infestation. Now under the leadership of the late Bernard’s daughters, Debby Tappan and Jackie Grabin, including a third generation in the business, Arrow expertly handles all pest
control needs. The latest methods are used, including the Sentricon Elimination System for termite control and state-of-the-art green pest control technologies. Jackie and Debbie not only work together, but are best friends. They divide their responsibilities evenly and after all these years, have running the business down to a science. Armed with 80 professionally trained and certified technicians and a fleet of radio-equipped trucks, Arrow serves Long Island and the metropolitan New York area. Customers can expect an immediate response to a call, nearly always on the same day. Due to the huge resurgence of bedbugs, the Arrow family is proud to have added Polly, the bedbug dog. She is specifically trained to sniff out these critters. Along with Polly, their trained technicians have a vast understanding of pest biology, habits and how to eradicate them. Termites are another damaging pest. As each year passes and termite swarming

continues to decrease, it has become more and more likely that termites may be changing their habits and becoming secret and difficult to detect. Termites are still present in buildings; they are just not making themselves as apparent as they always have. It is now more important than ever to have your home inspected for termites. Protecting the health and safety of their clients and the environment continues to be Arrow’s first priority. Their Ever-Green Services use pest management practices that do not rely on chemical applications alone to control pests, including a new treatment for mosquitoes. This treatment can be done before an outside party or on a regular basis (two treatments per month) to control mosquitoes on the customers’ property.

rooklyn native Judy Geier has lived in Oceanside for the last 25 years. Although her degrees are in Fine Art, she has been in the medical field for the past 35 years. She previously owned a medical supply company in Freeport. Her interest in the elderly started when she desperately needed someone to care for her 90 year-old grandmother. She couldn’t believe how many uncaring and unqualified people applied for the position. This led to the opening of Comfort Keepers, in Oceanside, in 2009. Comfort Keepers provides in-home care that improves the life of seniors. The caregivers provide professional and compassionate home care to seniors and other adults. Although located in Oceanside, they serve all of Nassau County and surrounding areas. Judy says that this company is based on doing with, instead of doing for, and increases the sense of contribution and independence in the elderly, which is extremely important. Free in-home visits are arranged so that Judy can meet the client and determine his/ her personal needs. Studies show that active and mentally stimulated seniors enjoy a better quality of life. eing there for people in need has been a Cecere family tradition for two generations. Michael J. Cecere, III learned how to be a funeral director from his parents, Margaret and Michael. A licensed funeral director since 1985, he proudly took up the legacy of the Weigand family and assumed ownership of the Funeral Home on Grand Ave. Many families have trusted Michael and his family to care for them here in Baldwin and surrounding communities. Attending to all details and planning meaningful final tributes is just the beginning of the Care and Service provided at their family funeral home. Keepsake DVDs that can be played during the visitation provide comfort and solace for the bereaved. Full aftercare services, including support group referrals and bereavement literature, are just some of the services provided. When the funeral is over you will find they have just begun to care. eyerson-Roth Co. Inc., a franchise of DCAP Insurance, has been serving the Long Beach community since the 1930s. In 2001, it was purchased by Brian Bergman. The agency offers flood, automobile, homeowners, rental, food, motorcycle, umbrella, business, professional liability, workman’s compensation insurances, coverage for bonds and more. Since Meyerson-Roth works with many carriers as an insurance brokerage, they can research and shop to find the best company to meet the clients’ needs. Bergman feels that the more educated the customer is, the better he can help. “We do not want the quick sale but rather make sure our clients have the best coverage for their budget, and that they understand what they are buying,” says Brian. “Given our experience after two hurricanes has made us significantly more vigilant in discussing proper coverage with our clients and prospective clients. We lost so much, as did so many others, and we strive for us all being better prepared. If having a better insurance plan is beneficial then we push that to be a priority. The last thing anyone wants to hear is that they could have been covered for something if they knew it was available.” Born in Long Beach, Bergman has many ties to the community, including his family-owned Male Wear by Block clothing store (now the LB Surf shop). His mother was from the Block family. He grew up in insurance, starting at the O’Connell Lynch Agency when he was 19. His stepfather was Charles F. Lynch Jr., who had been the fire commissioner and president of the Chamber of Commerce. Bergman has served as president of both the TriCounty Independent Insurance Agents Association, and the Downstate Insurance Associations Council. “We care about what happens to people and they respond to that,” adds Brian. “It’s much more than just a sale, it’s a long-term relationship, so we give all we can.” The agency is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and by appointment; customer service is available by phone or email, 24 hours a day. If coming into the office isn’t convenient for the client, most business can be easily done via phone, email and/or fax.

or more than a decade, School of Rock has been inspiring kids to rock on stage and in life. Founded as a single school in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1998, it arrived in Rockville Centre six months ago. School of Rock is an ingenious concept that gets kids and adults rocking out to the classics and on stage. Students receive instruction in a supportive dynamic environment where students of all skill levels are comfortable yet challenged and feel inspired to excel. In addition to individual private music instruction on guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards and/or drums, students also learn how to jam with their peers in a weekly practice session.
Smiles happen at Silverman & Associates
“The School of Rock brings out the confidence in the kids to rock both on stage and in life,” says Monica Rubin, owner and general manager. The performance-based programs emphasize the message that music is not just about playing an instrument — it’s about teamwork, building confidence and creating leaders. “It’s truly remarkable to see how music touches the lives of all generations, and through this exciting new venture, we’ll be able to engage young people and inspire them to share their passion and talent with the world,” says Monica. “We are a part of a global franchise but still a family owned and operated business.”
