The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) manages the publicly-owned electrical transmission system on Long Island. LIPA contracts out to PSEG management to operate the system. New Jersey-based PSEG gets $80 million per year in fees and profits. Experts say LIPA can bring all PSEG’s expensive management functions “in house.” This step could save ratepayers $3/4 billion over 10 years. The Board meets at the end of March to make its decision. Eight political appointees, LIPA’s Trustees, have the power to reduce our electric bills: Elkan Abramowitz, Drew Biondi, Sheldon Cohen, Mark Fischl, Peter Gollon, Laureen Harris, Ali Mohammed, and Ralph Suozzi.
