Down Clubhouse Road, one will nd the Merrick olf Course, a sprawling 3,200-yard, nine-hole course, open to everyone whether they live in the Town of Hempstead or not. Situated next to the Merrick Cove — and rated by the Metropolitan olf Association — the facility and its clubhouse ofer much to Merokeans, and the greater community.

According to the town, the course has elevated greens, open fairways, and a practice putting green. The course s driving range is open seven days a week, while the course itself is open every day except Wednesdays.

Aside from gol ng, the course s clubhouse has become a meeting place for many of Merrick s clubs, organizations and more. Once a month on Tuesday evenings, the South Merrick Community and Civic Association uses the space to meet and discuss problems Merrick faces as well as upcoming community projects. During election season, the SMCCA also hosts its annual Meet the Candidates night,

allowing neighbors to become acquainted with individuals running for ofce.

Also on Clubhouse Road is the Merrick Senior Center, which is operated by the Town of Hempstead, ofering an array of services and recreational programs for senior citizens. Speci cally at the Merrick center, there is a shu eboard court and a lending library. In the summer, the building is used a cooling center, to help people beat the heat.

The former location of Temple Israel of South Merrick, which merged with the Bellmore-based Congregation Beth Ohr in 2018, is another stop on Clubhouse Road. Although no longer operating as a synagogue, the building is still used yearly for celebrations and activities, including the congregation s annual Purim carnival.

Clubhouse Road is a short drive east of the Meadowbrook Parkway, and its notable spots are part of the fabric that keeps the Merrick community strong. Learn more at HempsteadNY.gov.
