Greetings from the Glen Cove Chamber of CommerCe

This year marks the Glen Cove Chamber of Commerce’s 100th year. It has been my honor to serve as president for more than two years now. I have to say that this year has been the most challenging. When our business community suffers because of the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus, the chamber sufLisa Cohn fers as well. However, we have endeavored to provide whatever support we can to all our members whenever possible.

With so many challenges, it’s amazing that our membership has grown, and we are still holding board meetings as well as general membership Zoom meetings. Everyone is hurting, and so it is even more important for us to support one another in any way that we can. We had a virtual 5K run, and we then gave $250 to the North Shore Sheltering Program. Even though they are currently without a location for next winter, they are making every effort to find a place because the need will probably be even greater this coming winter to house the homeless. We also recently awarded scholarships to two deserving students from the proceeds of last year’s Gala fundraiser.

We currently are involved in a weekly Zoom meeting with the other local business organizations — the BID, the Gold Coast Business Association and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Together, we have worked to aid the business community. We are now spearheading a Wear a Mask campaign with the help of RXR. We all believe masks are an important part of abating this the coronavrius.

We are still hopeful that we can hold our annual Culinary Delights event if Covid-19 relents. However, it appears that we may have our 100- year Gala celebration in conjunction with it. When it becomes safe to gather again, we will let the community know, and together we will have a great celebration!

Sincerely,

Lisa Cohn
