Earlier this month, the Vill a g e o f Va l l e y S t r e a m revamped its fleet of essential highway and emergency vehicles to streamline the operations of the Department of Public Works. The latest upg rades include two state-of-the-art vacuum street sweepers, a multipurpose tractor, and two new four-wheel-drive public safety and code and parking

enforcement cars. The additions, with improved performance and added functionality, not only will replace outdated equipment, but also will “extend the life of other existing equipment so that [resources] aren’t taxed,” Mayor Edwin Fare said. The two new vacuum street sweepers replaced two aging mechanical models that, according to village officials, have “far outlasted their life expectancy.” Within days

of their purchase, the new sweepers were out clearing dust and debris from the village streets during morning rounds, which begin at 4 a.m. W h i l e t h e swe e p e r s ’ mechanical predecessors were each able to collect just over one and a half tons of debris a day, the new ones can each pick up three tons in the same time.
