School trustees discuss their plans Herbert and Umhafer have ideas for the board By MAlloRY WIlSoN mwilson@liherald.com
Now that the Seaford Board of Education race is over and the two seats have been filled, the winning candidates, newcomers Lisa Herbert and Heather Umhafer, are sharing their ideas about the 2022-23 school year. In the at-large race on May 17, Herbert received the most votes, 1,042, and Umhafer was second, with 851, both defeating incumbent Trustee Kevin Devlin, who had 819 votes. “I’m really excited to work with the board, and I’m really excited to work with the administra-
tion,” Herbert said. “I think that we’ll have a great working relationship going forward, which will benefit the students and the community at large.” Both candidates campaigned before the election and said they were eager to bring their ideas to the board. “It’s a great honor and privilege to have been elected,” Herbert said. “I ran a campaign that was really true to who I am. It was very positive and forward-looking.” Umhafer said that transparency and communication would be key to the board’s success. “Sometimes when we’d go to board meetings to voice our concerns about our kids wearing masks and say Continued on page 4
