Morphing into Dublin for James Joyce Jaunt

Sea Cliff was filled with Irish brogues and good cheer as residents enjoyed the Twelfth Annual James Joyce Jaunt. Close to 50 people participated in the event, the Sea Cliff Civic Association’s homage to “Ulysses,” Joyce’s epic novel.

The cast and audience traversed the streets of Dublin, encountering gluttons, jingoists, anti-Semites, besotted playboys, peppy Seaside Girls, members of the world’s oldest profession, a painful birth, and poignant memories of an infant’s death.

Throughout the globe, lovers of James Joyce’s “Ulysses,” considered by many critics to be the most important novel of the 20th Century, celebrate ‘Bloomsday’, on or around June 16, the day Leopold Bloom journeys throughout Dublin on his personal odyssey.

“Dan (DiPietro) and I were in Dublin in 2010 and participated in Bloomsday there,” said Ann DiPietro, President of the Civics Association. “We wanted to bring this to Sea Cliff.
