South Side High School’s girls’ soccer coaching saga took yet another tur n on Monday when the Board of Education accepted the resignation of the team’s new coach, Jude Massillon, after just one week. In his resignation letter to the board, Massillon, who is Black, said he received numerous anony-
mous phone calls, many of which were “racially derogatory.” “While the Board of Education has no way of verifying these claims, we also have no reason to disbelieve Mr. Massillon,” the school board wrote in a letter to district parents. “The board has encouraged Mr. Massillon to bring these instances of harassment to the attention of law enforcement. Mr. Mas-
sillon has the full support of the Board of Education if he should choose to move forward with a formal investigation.” At a special meeting on Monday, the board replaced Massillon with Judi Croutier, a district teacher and a former highly successful coach of the soccer team.
