Island Park resident to showcase speed stacking expertise By KEphERD DANiEl kdaniel@liherald.com
The Island Park Public Library is gearing up for some speed stacking fun. Island Park resident Gail Weintraub will be teaching the fast-paced sport on Feb. 25 and participants will learn to stack cups in sequences. Speed stacking, which has been featured in the Junior Olympics,

Weintraub spoke about some of the lesser-known facts and benefits of cup speed stacking. “If I wanted to increase my own dexterity or if I wanted to

It strengthens the eye muscles and can improve concentration and improve problem-solving. The brain becomes more organized and it’s very good for those who want to concentrate more.” She added that it improves
hand-eye coordination and reaction time and encompasses right and left brain activation. “By using the right hand, you’re activating and by using and or activating the right side of the brain to have more blood flow for both hemispheres of the brain,” she said. “It will improve . . . bilateral coordination, and there’s a fitness aspect to it.”
Weintraub, 74, lives in Island Park and is a former phys. ed. and health teacher at public s ch o o l s i n Ly n b ro o k a n d Hewlett-Woodmere.
