The continuing coronavirus pandemic has severely impacted businesses across the region, but in the Village of Malverne, thanks to the efforts of Mayor Keith Colbert, the board of trustees and the Chamber of Commerce, six new businesses have opened in the past six months, and another five are expected to open this year. The new establishments
include Bee’s Arts and Crafts, On Point Phar macy, the reopened Malverne Butcher Shop and Better Body Bootcamp, all on Hempstead Avenue; Peaceful Yo g a, on Church Street, and Two Of Us Event Planners, on Broadway. All have joined the Chamber of Commerce. Brenda Negron, owner of Bee’s and a native of Queens, moved to Malver ne last August and opened her store not long afterward. “I felt this instant connection with the
village,” Negron said, and when she spotted the empty storefront, she told her fiancé, “That’s going to be our next store,” and it was. Bee’s started off strong, Negron said, but with the Covid spike in late fall, children’s birthday party bookings slowed. She advises those with new businesses to be positive despite the pandemic, and to take safety precautions such as masking and hand CONTINUED ON PAGE 14
