John Nuzzi Sr. has taken on so many benevolent projects across so many decades that even he can’t list them all. And while he has received several accolades through the years, he said that recently being named Elk of the Year by New York Elks Lodge No. 1 in Lynbrook topped them all. “Many years back, I was lodge Officer of the Year,” Nuzzi said. “But Elk of the Year is the highest honor you can get as a non-officer.”

Nuzzi, 63, reached the rank of deputy district Grand Exalted Ruler for the Southeast District in 2019 — an area that includes Elks lodges in Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, Hicksville, Massapequa, New Hyde Park and his home lodge, which is based in Lynbrook and additionally serves Baldwin, Franklin Square, Freeport and Hempstead. Meanwhile, Nuzzi continued to raise funds for Camp Anchor, which provides year-round programs for special- needs children. He also manages 17 vehicles across the state that CONTINUED ON PAGE 4
