If you drive into Point Lookout in the next few days, watch out. You may want to hit your brakes. On a red brick wall on the north side of Lido Boulevard, you will see whales. Not real whales, but 97 small wood likenesses of whales on the wall of a store, Joyful Treasures, owned by Laura Shockley, once a corporate lawyer, and the founder

and owner of one of the barrier island’s best-known yoga studios, Point Lookout Yoga and Wellness. Joyful Treasures, a gift shop of artwork curated from local artisans, small U.S.based companies and abroad, and Point Lookout Yoga are part of Shockley’s growing businesses, at 48 Point Lookout Blvd. Shockley, who has been a wellness guru and yoga store owner and instructor since the mid-2000s, when she opted

out of the 24/7 corporate law grind and opened her shop in Point Lookout, has been helping provide food for Long Beach’s food insecure and homeless. Over the years, Shockley’s yoga shop has collected blankets, hats, gloves and scarves for the seniors at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Long Beach. And about those whales.
