East Meadow slammed by first nor’easter of 2021 By BRIAN STIEGlITZ bstieglitz@liherald.com

A massive nor’easter swept across Long Island early Monday, covering East Meadow in blankets of snow that continued to fall through most of the day and into Tuesday. Meteorologists said the storm had dropped a foot or more of snow across the area by Tuesday, with wind gusts reaching 30 to as high as 60 miles per hour. On the East Meadow Moms

and Dads Facebook page on Monday, a few residents shared concerns that their streets had not yet been plowed. County and town officials urged people to stay off the roads during the storm, with treacherous conditions on Monday. “Wind is going to play a significant role in this storm,” County Executive Laura Curran said at a news conference on Sunday. “We’re talking about blizzard-like

conditions . . . It’s going to be heavy, wet snow with a lot of wind.” Late Sunday night, the East Meadow School District announced that school would be closed on Monday and students would have a traditional snow day. The district’s Twitter feed read, “All afterschool and evening activities are also cancelled. Enjoy the snow day!” On its Twitter account, the Continued on page 3
