On Dec. 19, Baldwin Post 246 of the American Legion, partnering with the Salvation Army, Baldwin Fire Department and Nassau County, hosted its third annual holiday party where about 40 area residents came together for a moment of peace and community amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The festivities began with
a visit by members of the Baldwin Fire Department in a fire truck. Children explored the equipment as parents took candid photos and Santa’s elves showed families around the vehicle on a chilly December afternoon. Hose Co. 3 1st Lt. Joseph Eberhart, 33, who has been a volunteer firefighter for about 15 years, told the Herald, “We are all about community service.” He said that as long as the American Legion hosted such social events, the fire
department would lend a hand. Indeed, Hose 2 appeared two years ago at the holiday party. Families then came inside for food and camaraderie, with children awaiting Santa’s arrival and parents awaiting their children’s expression at Santa’s arrival.
