Baldwin Fire Department gets $26,000 Covid relief grant By BriDGet Downes bdownes@liherald.com
The Hempstead Town Board has authorized more than $300,000 in relief grants to assist local fire departments, including the Baldwin Fire Department. The initiative, town officials said, recognizes the ongoing efforts of first responders who have continued to step up for the community throughout the pandemic by providing several fire
departments with funds to reimburse needed but unbudgeted Covid-19 expenses incurred to keep the community safe. At the Town Board meeting on Dec. 8, the Baldwin Fire District was allocated just over $26,000 in Covid-19 relief grants to assist with unbudgeted expenses that arose during the pandemic response. The Fire District will use the funds to cover the cost of purchasing additional supplies
needed to keep members safe, Chair man Mike McDer mott said. “T hese were above and beyond what we normally purchase in a normal year,” he said. Supplies included hand sanitizer, masks, gloves, gowns, a disinfectant spray machine and other necessary supplies. “The Baldwin Fire Department chiefs, officers and members have done and continue to Continued on page 3
