hree generations of the Marcote family have attended Long Beach High School, beginning in the mid-1950s. Susan and Donald Marcote of Point Lookout were the first of the family to graduate from LBHS. Donald graduated in 1956 and Susan in 1961. Their children, Michael, Daniel and Brian, came next, They all attended from the mid-1980s to the end of that decade. Then it was the grandchildren’s turn: Thomas and Jessica. They attended in the mid-2000s. Jessica is now at Northeastern University in Boston. And eventually, a third grandchild will continue the tradition. Christopher, who is one-yearold, most likely will attend LBHS. It's all in the family for Susan Marcote. "I have lived in the same house in Point Lookout for 60 years," she said. "As a family we are always together, so it just seems natural that everybody went to Long Beach High School." She acknowledges that different family members have different recollections of their high school years. As all families do.
or Gloria Romanowski, graduating from South Side High School is a family affair. Her father, Nicholas Grandy, graduated SSHS in 1940. He went on to become an entrepreneur and executive vice president for Roosevelt Raceway, the racetrack just outside the Village of Westbury from 1940 to 1988. His older sister, Nancy Grandy-Brunhoez, graduated from South Side in 1939, and his brother, Vincent Grandy, graduated in 1942. Her siblings include Amanda (class of 1967); Kathryn (1969); Nicole (1970); Virginia (1972); Nick (1974); Paul (1977); and Peter (1981). Amanda’s daughters, Louisa and Elizabeth, graduated from South Side in 1999 and 2004, respectively. Gloria, a 1979 graduate, attended SUNY Oneonta. She pursued a career in tech sales; transitioning into real estate, she has been with Daniel Gale Sotheby's International Realty for the past 14 years. Her sons, Mark and Nick, graduated from SSHS in 2013 and 2017. Mark went on to Princeton University and is a financial analyst, living in Manhattan; Nick graduated from Adelphi University and works in logistical operations in Brooklyn.
