A letter from the

publisher Welcome to this year’s Franklin Square & Elmont Community Guide, your essential resource for everything that makes these communities such vibrant and welcoming places to live. We’re proud to bring you this annual supplement, which reflects the energy and character of Franklin Square and Elmont. Whether you’re a lifelong resident or new to the area, this guide offers a closer look at the resources, institutions and Stuart connections that define living here. Richner This year’s cover features a lively, montage-style collage of images that represent the rhythms of daily life — including Sewanhaka’s homecoming, when students, families and alumni come together with spirit, the Elmont Cultural Center’s annual Easter Egg Hunt, held in partnership with Meera Empowerment; summer evenings at Rath Park, with concerts hosted by the Town of Hempstead; Franklin Square Kiwanis’ Trunk or Treat, also at Rath Park; Elmont Memorial Library’s E-Con, celebrating all things pop culture; and Elmont Family Day. Together, these moments reflect neighborhoods rich in tradition, achievement and hometown pride. Inside these pages, you’ll find a curated look at signature events, parks, schools, libraries, and community organizations — the places and stories that give Franklin Square and Elmont their distinct character. Consider this guide your invitation to explore and perhaps even rediscover Franklin Square and Elmont. Here, the familiar meets the unexpected — and we hope this guide encourages you to experience something new while reconnecting with what you already know and love. Of course, no conversation about Franklin Square and Elmont would be complete without recognizing the Franklin Square Chamber of Commerce and Elmont Chamber of Commerce. Their dedication and leadership foster connection year-round through ongoing initiatives and programs that support local businesses and bring people together. This edition is published once again in partnership with both the Franklin Square Chamber of Commerce and the Elmont Chamber of Commerce, and we are honored to continue that collaboration. The guide represents our ongoing commitment to local journalism and community storytelling. or many Elmont residents, the Elmont Memorial Library is more than a place to check out books. With a theater, educational resources, community partnerships and programs for all ages, the library has become a gathering place where residents can learn, connect and explore new interests. The library offers a wide range of materials and services beyond its traditional collection. Cardholders can borrow museum passes and items from the Library of Things, including lawn games and board games. Residents can also access online databases for everything from Consumer Reports and investment research through Value Line to job searches, tutoring and other educational resources. Digital services make it possible for patrons to use the library from home, too. Through platforms such as Libby and Hoopla, folks can borrow ebooks, audiobooks and music without having to visit. The library also puts a strong emphasis on connecting with the community. Staff members regularly attend local events, where they introduce everyone to library services and offer interactive activities. The library maintains relationships with area schools, welcoming students for tours, story times, crafts and demonstrations of its digital resources. Students can receive library cards and check out books during these visits. The library's 430-seat theater is another major part of its community programming. The space hosts concerts, movies, cultural programs, and school and community events — including programs celebrating Black History Month and Women’s History Month. Local theater company Plaza Theatrical also brings live theater to the Elmont Library Theatre, with performances for children and adults. For movie lovers, adult reference librarian Phillip Harwood offers regular film screenings and discussions. Harwood brings his extensive knowledge of classic Hollywood to the 14

Library officials have also identified teen programming as an area for continued growth, including the Youth Advisory Board, which gives students an opportunity to help develop and lead programs. Adults and seniors have their own selection of programs, including book discussions, exercise classes, arts and crafts, educational workshops, technology programs, and community gatherings. Recent offerings have included artificial intelligence workshops and gaming events, while the annual E-Con celebration brings together residents interested in pop culture, creativity and fandom. or many Franklin Square residents, the public library is more than a place to check out a book. It is a place to bring children for an activity, meet up with neighbors, learn something new, find community resources, or simply spend some time. The library serves residents in School District 17, including portions of Franklin Square, Garden City South, West Hempstead and Elmont. Its collection includes fiction and nonfiction books, audiobooks, DVDs, Blu-ray discs, music CDs, ebooks, and online databases, giving patrons plenty of options whether they prefer to read, watch or listen. Programming is just as varied. Children ages two to 12 can take part in story times, crafts, book discussions, and other activities designed to make reading and learning fun. The library also offers separate summer reading programs for children, teens and adults, encouraging patrons to keep reading while finding new ways to participate in the community. Throughout the year, the programming calendar offers something for all ages and interests.Young children can pick up take-and-make crafts, while adults and seniors can join online Zumba classes. Teens can participate in programs such as Social Squad, which gives neurodivergent teens in grades eight through 12 and their caregivers a relaxed place to play games, talk and connect with others. There are also book discussions, film programs, technology programs, community groups, and teen volunteer opportunities. Adults can take part in educational programs, crafts, cooking and recipe programs, exercise classes and movie showings. Practical programs such as tax assistance and Defensive Driving classes give residents opportunities to get help with everyday needs. The library has also become a place where residents can find services that go beyond traditional offerings. It has hosted legal assistance programs, free health screenings, passport 18
