ellmore is home to two libraries: the Bellmore Memorial Library, for patrons zoned for Bellmore Public Schools, and the North Bellmore Public Library, for patrons zoned for the North Bellmore School District. Both offer engaging activities for all ages.
Here are some highlights from Bellmore Memorial:
• The Bellmore Memorial Library regularly presents "An Afternoon of Comedy,” featuring nationally touring comedians, bringing laughter and entertainment to the community. These performances offer a delightful opportunity for patrons to enjoy stand-up comedy in a local, accessible setting.
• The Bellmore Memorial Library hosts an annual "Noon Year's Eve" celebration ahead of New Years Day, offering families a chance to ring in the New Year at noon instead of midnight. This event features activities such as crafts, music, and a Countdown to Noon, making it ideal for children and those who prefer an earlier celebration.
• Bellmore Memorial Library offers a Library of Things Collection, a unique lending service that goes beyond books. Bellmore cardholders can borrow a variety of fun, practical, and innovative items, from lawn games and musical instruments to electronics and DIY tools — all at no cost.
Mike Monahan/Herald Patrons at the Bellmore Memorial Library laughed along to ‘An Afternoon of Comedy,’ regular comedy events that bring well-known stand-up comedians to the local stage.

A to Bellmore’s schools
By Jordan Vallone
Bellmore is home to two distinct elementary school districts — Bellmore Public Schools and the North Bellmore School District — which serve students from kindergarten through sixth grade before they move on to the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District for middle and high school. Here’s a breakdown of these two school districts, their schools, and what makes them stand out.
1. Bellmore Public Schools
Bellmore Public Schools is a small, close-knit district with a strong focus on academic excellence and leadership development. The district serves students in grades K-6 before they transition to Grand Avenue or Merrick Avenue middle schools in the Central District. The superintendent is Joseph Famularo.
Schools in the Bellmore Public Schools District:
• Charles A. Reinhard Early Childhood Center (grades Pre-K-2)
• Shore Road School (grades 5-6)
• Winthrop Avenue School (grades 3-4)
Bellmore Public Schools emphasize leadership, creativity, and character development, incorporating the Leader in Me program into its curriculum to instill lifelong skills in students.

things to do
at Newbridge Road Park
By Joseph D'Alessandro
Newbridge Road Park, at 2600 Newbridge Road, is a beloved community destination nestled in the heart of South Bellmore.
The park offers a variety of recreational activities for visitors of all ages — sports, family time and socialization for pets — reflecting its commitment to providing a welcoming environment for all visitors. Established to serve the growing community of Bellmore, Newbridge Road Park has continually evolved to meet the recreational needs of its residents. The park's diverse amenities reflect its commitment to providing a welcoming environment for all visitors.
Here’s how you can spend a day at the park:
Kayak along the waterways
The park provides access to South Shore Blueway, making it a popular destination for kayaking. The blueway trail is a safe, legal network of water access points for human-powered boats and sail craft, allowing people to experience Long Island’s South Shore, while protecting wildlife and their habitats, as well as the safety of trail users. The latest upgrade was announced last summer by New York’s Department of State. The completion of Newbridge Road Park’s public access point added a year-round, ADA-accessible recreation destination that connects to the access point at Seamans Neck Park in Seaford, creating a network of water access points for individuals to experience Long Island’s South Shore.
Paddlers out of Newbridge can explore the scenic inlets and marshes, obtaining a unique perspective of the preserve from the water. While the park itself does not rent kayaks, visitors can bring their own or check with nearby rental options. Kayaking through the peaceful waters is a great way to experience the beauty of Long Island’s South Shore ecosystem up close.
Skate at Newbridge Arena
For those who love ice skating, Newbridge Road Park is home to the Newbridge Arena, a year-round indoor ice rink that offers public skating sessions, figure skating lessons and hockey leagues.
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced skater, the arena provides a fantastic opportunity to glide across the ice in a wellmaintained and temperaturecontrolled facility. The rink is especially popular during the winter, but it remains open all year, making it a great option for a fun activity regardless of the season.
Play sports on the courts, or kick back at the pool
Newbridge Road Park is a haven for sports enthusiasts, offering a variety of athletic fields and courts. Visitors can enjoy basketball, tennis, and pickleball on well-maintained courts, while soccer and baseball fields provide space for team sports and recreational play. Recently, the park underwent renovations to enhance its facilities, including upgrades to the playground and pool area. The playground had been revamped by Spring 2023, and a state-of-the-art splash pad was added, offering an exciting new way for young visitors to cool off.

Visit the dog park
Dog parents in Bellmore love bringing their furry friends to the dedicated 14,024-squre-foot area for dogs at Newbridge Road Park. The off-leash park is divided into sections for small and large dogs, providing a safe space for pets to run, play and socialize.
It's open to Town of Hempstead residents with a valid dog license and rabies vaccination tag. The space includes agility equipment and benches for owners to relax, also water stations to keep dogs hydrated. It’s an excellent spot for local pet owners to meet and for their dogs to enjoy some much-needed exercise and playtime.
If you’re looking for a more relaxed way to enjoy the great outdoors, Newbridge Road Park’s scenic walking trails offer the perfect escape. The 1.2-mile paved loop winds through the park’s lush greenery, creating a peaceful retreat for walkers, joggers, and cyclists alike. Whether you’re taking a leisurely morning stroll, getting in some light exercise, or simply soaking in the sights and sounds of nature, the trail provides a refreshing experience for all ages and fitness levels. Along the way, you'll find shaded pathways, beautifully maintained landscapes, and even the occasional glimpse of local wildlife from chirping birds to playful squirrels. It’s the perfect place to clear your mind, stretch your legs, and take in the beauty of this Bellmore gem.
