ocust Valley returns to the court after amassing 16 total wins in 201617. However, the eye test shows this Falcons team is much different than last season’s playoff team. Nevertheless, head coach and former college basketball player Tim Lomot will guide his young talented core into Conference ABC competition. “Knowing we were graduating seven seniors that have been in our program for multiple years, I know that we would have a Thomas Eletto different look to our
team both from a leadership standpoint as well as a personnel standpoint moving into the 2017-18 season,” Lomot said. Lomot spoke about how he feels the presence of a vocal force on the court has been a positive in recent seasons. This winter, Thomas Eletto assumes the role of keeping everyone informed of their duty and “rallying the troops”. “Thomas Eletto has embraced this role and has done an outstanding job early on in the season both leading by example as well as communicating each and every practice,” Lomot said. “He has really come into his own as a leader and is someone who puts the team ahead of himself. “ Senior Ramell Phillips is a versatile player who came off the bench a year ago but is poised for a serious uptick in minutes. “Both Ramell and Thomas do a little bit of everything while on the court,” Lomot said. “They both improved tremendously in the offseason in terms of strength, athleticism, skill and leadership.” Locust Valley returns one starter in All-County guard Parker Appel, who is developing a further knack for slashing to the hoop as a dangerous complement to his outside game. Seniors Chris Madsen and Liam Keeney, who both gained tremendous experience last season, will be key contributors. “They are unselfish guys who look to

make the extra pass and are ready to rotate defensively when needed,” Lomot said. Senior Frank Smith and junior Owen Letter are promising, energetic players with the ability to provide a spark off of the bench. “I think we have tools and capabilities to be a good team as long as we stick together,” Lomot said.

he Oyster Bay boys enter the 2017-18 season with two consecutive Nassau County Class B titles to boast. However, head coach Brian Boyle & Co. make no qualms about what their goals are for this season. “We want to get three in a row first, and eventually get off the Island,” Boyle said in regard to qualifying for the state playoffs. “These kids know the history of the school and our goal is to win the Long Island Championship.” Last year, 6-foot-4 St. Dominic transfer student Anthony Reilly shined as a key member of the Baymen frontcourt with guard-like skills and slick inside-out play. According to Boyle, the now senior and Anthony Reilly RPI-committed Reilly took the next step this offseason in terms of becoming “the guy”

Marmorale has the ability to fill up the score sheet at a glance, with his mix of solid ball handling and smooth jumper. Williams returns this season fully healthy after an injuryplagued 2016-17 where he still saw Nassau/Suffolk Underclassmen Game honors. Elia Deblasio, a constant three-point threat a year ago for Boyle’s bunch will look to stretch the floor for slashing ballhandlers. This team is a very athletic and capable group with comparable skill from the starters to the ninth guy coming in from the bench. The success of this team will lie within its ability to break the ball out into transition and, conversely, causing headaches for other teams by handling the transition offense.
Devon Marmorale With the program regaining many of its key players from a year ago, the formidable Baymen could cause strikingly similar headaches to their opponents this winter. Boyle does, however, want to continue to improve his halfcourt offense and defense, keeping opponents at bay. Boyle has no worries his team can make the adjustments: “This team can be special,” Boyle said. “These kids have really benefitted from being in our program for three years.” Oyster Bay will again compete in Conference ABC with Carle Place, Cold Spring Harbor, East Rockaway, Locust Valley, Malverne, Seaford and Wheatley.
