living in Malverne The Village of Malverne is ideally situated, only 45 minutes from the heart of New York City, and within ten minutes of some of the world’s most beautiful white sand beaches. We also enjoy the temperate Long Island climate – warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than nearby cities and suburbs Malverne is widely known for its charming, small-town appeal with lovely residential homes, quaint downtown shops and restaurants as well as our beautiful recreational parks and facilities. The village also has many landmarks, beloved by locals and visitors alike. Among these include Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s, the closest organic farm to New York City. The farm is made up of five acres of land and hosts events throughout the year. Others include the Malverne Historical House, which preserves and displays Malverne’s history through the decades. Noteworthy village events include the Holiday Lighting, which draws admirers throughout the metropolitan area who delight in the Malverne’s transformation into a holiday showplace, complete with an elf parade, photos with Santa, dance performances, horse and carriage rides through the village and more. The event has been enchanting crowds since its inception in the 1960s. Malverne’s Memorial Day Parade is another major village event, where dozens of organizations march through the village’s streets in Continued on next page

The heart of the village’s government is located at Village Hall, 99 Church Street in Malverne. Malverne is served by the Malverne Police Department. The Police Chief is John Aresta. The Malverne Volunteer Fire Department has served for over 100 years and is located at 30 Broadway. It’s chief is James Lang. The village also has its own Department of Public Works, which provides sanitation management, village beautification and road repairs, among other services.

There are four public schools and two parochial schools in Malverne. Its high school was recently on the list of top high schools in the nation. In addition, there is a middle school and two elementary schools. One of the village’s many celebrities is Malverne Mel, the groundhog prognosticator who makes an appearance each February 2. Mel has been a mainstay in the village for over 20 years and draws hundreds of people and the news media each year to hear his weather forecast. West Hempstead’s Street Fair is held each September on Nassau Boulevard.

West Hempstead is a Nassau County hamlet rich with history, parks, numerous public transportation options and other amenities that have been drawing residents and businesses to the area for years. The hamlet has several business areas, among them Hempstead Avenue, Woodfield Road and Hempstead Turnpike, all of which offer a mosaic of different restaurants, convenience stores and more that reflect the diverse needs and interests of its residents. The area has a strong Orthodox Jewish community, as well as many residents from Western Europe and other areas across the globe. One of the hamlet’s many gems is Hall’s Pond Park, the county’s 11-acre retreat located at the corner of Nassau Boulevard and Hempstead Avenue. The park includes a duck pond, playground and walking paths, which attract children and adults, and is a gathering place for events hosted by the West Hempstead Community Support Association, the West Hempstead Lions Club, the Police Athletic League and many more. The park is also home to the hamlet’s newly installed 9/11 Memorial, which was dedicated in July. Hempstead Lake State Park is another hamlet treasure, containing tennis and basketball courts, horse trails, fishing ponds, a new playground and a carousel, which just celebrated its 100th birthday. Echo Park, which offers indoor and outdoor pools, a diving pool, saunas and a fitness center, is located on Nassau Boulevard and is open to town residents.
