hink you can get away with wearing that same old black suit this fall? Think again. Fashion is all about color this year, says Lee Eiseman, color expert and executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

And it’s not your typical dark greens and browns sprinkled with aa little li cinnamon on top. It’ s time to get creative with your y fashion coloring box and put together some new combinations that will make your wardrobe feel like a work of art.

“Designers are taking a painterly approach to fall bright colors with staple 2011 by artfully ccombining o reminiscent of how an artist would construct neutrals, reminiscen a stunning work of of art,” Eiseman says. “Much like a painter’s masterpiec masterpiece, there is a certain romance to this season’s palette.” knowwcreating a masterpiece isn’ t all But you kno that easy. Like a fifilt ltered sunset on the waning days of fall, bamboo is a sstandout yellow with a subtle green undertone. This dappled shade pairs dramatically with several of the top 10 Pantone fall hues, including phlox, tteal and honeysuckle.

• RADIANT EMBERGLOW, a traditional autumnal tone, conjures up the warmth of a glowing fi re. Combine emberglow with coffee liqueur for a classic look or with honeysuckle for something a bit more retro.

Add a spark with shoes or a handbag in emberglow or perhaps a patterned scarf combining phlox or deep teal.

• HONEYSUCKLE was such a hit from spring that you won’t be surprised to see it again on the fall palette.

This playful reddish pink works with any other color in the fall Pantone palette, especially the fall staples coffee liqueur and nougat. Honeysuckle also takes on a darker tone for fall in deep reds – such as crimson, another favorite hue of designers. T o add some contrast, pair these reds with complementary bamboo.

• PHLOX is a deep purple with a hint of mystery and makes an outstanding statement when worn on its own. Add phlox to this season’ s neutrals to create a bit of drama, or combine it with cedar green, deep teal or coffee liqueur for something out of the ordinary. To add even more drama, pair phlox with honeysuckle or bamboo against a cedar background – a combination inspired by Mother Nature.

• CEDAR is a versatile midtone neutral green and is a natural with deep teal and sophisticated with phlox or orchid hush.

• DEEP TEAL, my personal favorite this fall, is a strong blue-toned green. It is very new and interesting when teamed with cedar, its neighbor on the color wheel.

Deep teal is also a unique counterpoint to honeysuckle. As you can with any of the stronger colors in your wardrobe, set off deep teal with the classic fall neutral coffee liqueur, which is a great alternative to basic black.

• NOUGAT (sounds good and tastes good) is a softer tan, and it also sets off phlox, emberglow or orchid hush.

• QUARRY is a medium gray you can expect to see cropping up in the artistic fashion color palette this fall and is another relief to black. It will blend perfectly as a great background to bolder colors.

The best color advice for fall? “Just do something unexpected,” Eiseman says. “Experiment with different color combinations that you’ve never worn before. It will be chic and modern.”

t’s over-the-top when it comes to fall’ s newest fashion accessories; we’re head over heels in love with the big bags, the pumped-up shoes, the collars and the cuffs – and the fuzzy fur hats, well, fur sure those are a must-have! After all, we don’t live by clothes alone, do we?

to be taken straight out of an old “Tuxedo Junction” throwback, with bow ties and fl oppy bows making a comeback. This is an easy trend to follow – and an inexpensive way to add some chic style to your white shirts.

So what are all those bold and beautiful necessities that we will want to add to our wardrobes this fall? I’ll tell you. And start your shopping list now; you don’t have to wait until it gets cold to indulge in these extras:

• BELT IT. With the focus on the waist this season, it just stands to reason that belts would be a major accessory. From chunky decorative wide belts to simple classics to slimmer jeweled belts for dressier occasions, there’s a belt to cinch in every look. But the newest way to show off the midriff is to sash it with a big black swath of fabric. Contrasted with colorful dresses, pants and skirts, the black sash makes a bold statement.

• GO FOR AN EXOTIC HANDBAG. The big bags are still around this fall, though they’re more structured; the squared doctor’ s satchel will be a big hit. But the smaller clutches and pouchettes are becoming more and more popular , especially when done in exotic snakeskin prints. For even more fun, check out the fuzzy new fur handbags.

• GO HAND IN HAND WITH GLOVES. N ow what’s a fall and winter without a new pair of gloves to get you really warmed up all over? From short leather gloves embellished with embroidery to more dramatic elbow-length styles in exaggerated silhouettes, the glove love is a bold extra to include on your shopping list. The perfect addition to those fuzzy handbags!

• PUMP IT UP. Shoes are always one accessory that can update a wardrobe instantly, and this fall, look for more wedges, lots of high-heeled loafers and booties (the Beatle boot returns!), and classic pumps once again take their stand.

• MAKE A STATEMENT WITH JEWELRY. You may have the ladylike pearls and the diamond stud earrings already , but you’re going to want to go bolder this fall. Give your wardrobe a big punch with meant-to-be-seen jeweled pins and cuff bracelets, as well as glitzy cocktail rings.

• GET COZY WITH HATS AND HEAD WRAPS. Hats were all over the fall runways, from furry oversize Russian trapper styles to knit beanies and berets to structured retro cloches. Head wraps also showed up in many designer collections, from sheer scarves to caps of metallic armor. This is defi nitely one accessory on your fall shopping list that will have to wait until the first frost sets in.

• WRAP UP WITH NECKWEAR AND HEADGEAR. The fur was fl ying again this fall in long, shawl-like fur scarves and collars topping off sweaters, coats and jackets. Are we expecting a blizzard or something? Anyway, everyone should own at least one of these fuzzy wraps; the colorful ones are the most fun!

• TIE IT UP WITH A BOW. Another major neckwear accessory seems

hat to wear to work this fall? Just relax. That’s what fashion designers are doing when it comes to suiting up for the new season ahead.

After all, women are tired of getting all uptight tight when when choosing clothes that look professional but still ut still are are pretty and polished – and comfortable.

“The suit is fashion’s equivalent of an Elvis vis CD. We all own at least one,” says Paula Reed, authororofof“Style “Style Clinic.” “Whether it refl ects your entire lifestyle estyle or reflects just an element of your taste or is is simply something you once thought you ought to have, the suit is the common denominator of modern wardrobes.”

Even though most people don’ t wear a suit to work every day , Reed says it is generally “our fi rst line of defense when we need to be taken seriously.”

Choosing a suit can be daunting, she adds. “A lot depends on its making the right impression. A sloppy or badly made suit will impress in all the wrong ways. A well-made suit becomes your backdrop, setting you off as the serenely capable and elegant person you know the world wants to see.”

This fall, fashion designers have given n women many more alternatives to the e traditional “power suit,” softening up offi cee wear with unique styles that offer dozens of f creative possibilities. Reed shares some tips for “working” these new power suits: • Avoid boxy jackets under all circumstances.

By Sharon Mosley This fall, it’ s time to accentuate the positive and focus on fashion’s newest erogenous zone – the waist.

Take a deep breath and cinch it all in. Forget the breezy tunic tops of summer; rein in your best assets and show off those curves. Check out the newest sashed dresses, form-fitting belted jackets and Empire-style blouses.

“Have you ever noticed that some women never make a fashion misstep and always seem to be flawlessly pulled together?” asks Jenny Levin, author of Harper’ s Bazaar’s “Great Style: The Best W ays to Update Y our Look.” “Take a closer look and you may notice that those whose sartorial sense you admire may wear the same style over and over. They know how to emphasize their assets, obscure what they aren’ t so proud of and make their bodies look their absolute finest.”

Here are some tricks from Levin on mastering the art of defi ning the waist and making the clothes you wear flatter your figure: • Whether you are tall or short, a size 2 or 12, cinching in your middle almost always creates a feminine and flattering line.

• Pick pieces with a slim belt or ribbon for subtle definition. Or for a more dramatic effect, choose a super-wide waistband, such as a cummerbund or an obi.

• The waist doesn’t have to be smack in the middle. A drop waist elongates your torso, and an Empire gives you a leggier look.

• Details on the waist – for example, big bows – work well in distracting the eye from your top or bottom.

• Extremely high-waisted styles will make your legs seem miles long. They are a good option when you prefer midlength skirts.

• Avoid anything overly adorned or patterned. The simpler the better when it comes to a streamlined look that shows off your waist. The effect works best in solids. Loud colors, prints and embellishments detract from the dramatic impact.

• Halter dresses and asymmetrical styles are ideal for showing off your waist. Pick pieces in draping jer sey that shield but simultaneously emphasize curves.

A woman with a very thin fi gure can benefi t from the draping fabric and the dress’s ability to emphasize the waist. A full-fi gured woman looks great in the hourglass-enhancing silhouette and the loosely falling fabric.

• A deep V-neck on a gown or cocktail dress – or even a slight plunge on a more casual top during the day – will detract from your hips and accentuate your waist.

• Dress up old classics with a new belt. Cinching your waist over your suit jacket not only instantly gives your suit a new look but also introduces a sleek and flattering line. Go for a belt that matches for a conservative approach, or add spirit with one in a contrasting hue.

• You also can play up your curvy assets at the waist by choosing pieces with details, such as beading or ruching, at the midriff.

Remember that feminine clothes that enhance the hourglass shape are always flattering. To accentuate your figure, experiment with wearing form-fitting dresses and skirts that are cut diagonally or on the bias. They should nip in at the waist, hug the hips and fall loosely over the thighs and calves. Be brave; be a body-hugger this fall!

“Many trends have longevity; you just have to pick the right ones,” says fashion stylist Marissa Rizzuto, who specializes in designer looks for less. “Splurging on accessories is smarter than splurging on clothing. Y ou can always fi t into your accessories, but clothing is another story .

Plus, you’ll always get more use out of your accessories.”

If you can afford only a few key pieces this fall, get the biggest bang for your buck with the season’s must-have handbag and the perfect pumps. Pair these of-the-moment accessories with trend-driven yet classic clothing that will look great even as the styles change.

“When it comes to spending, spend on quality pieces that are essential for the season,” says personal shopper and fashion stylist Lauren Franks. “Pick versatile pieces you can style in different ways to make sure you get the best bang out of your buck.”

If you are only shopping for a few items, “marry these new fall trends into your current wardrobe for an affordable wardrobe refresher,” Franks says. “If you choose carefully , you can stretch your wallet to hit both great accessories and clothing.”

By Chandra Orr N oufal has the perfect recipe for rehydrating dry, brittle hair: Mix 2 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 2 tablespoons of avocado and 1 tablespoon of olive oil to form a smooth paste. Apply the mixture to wet hair, and cover your hair with a shower cap or a plastic wrap. Heat the hair for 10 minutes under a blow-dryer, and then let it cool for 10 minutes. Rinse and shampoo as normal.

“The mayonnaise, avocado and olive oil have natural oils that are great for dry hair , and the avocado is loaded with vitamins B-6 and E, which increase strength and shine,” Noufal says.

To maintain those healthy , hydrated tresses, consider the four cardinal rules of winter hair care: 1. Shampoo less often, and do it correctly. Shampoo is primarily meant to clean the scalp and can damage hair if overused. Remember that the drier your scalp the less often you need to shampoo. When shampooing, wash your scalp to remove oils, and then let the shampoo run through the hair. Follow with a moisturizing conditioner applied to the ends of the hair only, not to the scalp.

“Hair needs to be hydrated with extra conditioners or a conditioning mask in the winter months so it stays healthy and not dry,” Noufal says.

2. Choose the right shampoo. Swap your summer shampoo and conditioner combo for one with extra moisturizers. T wo-in-one shampoos that clean and condition the hair are also good choices. Look for products that contain dimethicone, which has been shown to reduce static electricity for better shine and manageability.

3. Ease up on the styling products. In the summer, humidity can interfere with the top layer of hair, so you may need more styling gel, texturizing pomade or smoothing cream to get the desired effect, but in the winter , heavy products can weigh down hair , making it less manageable. Instead, opt for a few drops of smoothing serum to help strengthen and protect hair while adding shine and gloss.

4. Protect hair from heat. When possible, skip the blow-dryer and let hair air-dry instead. If you must use a blow-dryer , start on the lowest heat setting fi rst, and then gradually increase the heat to avoid dryness and damage. Opt for curling irons and fl at irons with built-in temperature controls, and use the lowest setting possible to get the desired look.
