Chancellor’s Welcome The University of Arkansas Rich Mountain has a rich history serving our local communities. Rich Mountain began in 1973 as a vocational-technical school and has grown into a comprehensive community college. Since being designated as a college in 1983, 3878 degrees and certificates in over 25 programs of study have been awarded to Rich Mountain students. Over its forty-year history, Rich Mountain has been at the forefront of educational and workforce development for the Polk, Scott, and Montgomery county service
area. Our mission to provide educational opportunities for the residents of the Ouachita Mountain region continues to be our guiding force as we look towards the future. TRANSFER DEGREES These degree plans can be customized by one of our transfer specialists to meet your degree requirements at any college or university in the state. Associate of Arts Degree (AA) | is designed for those individuals planning to transfer to a four-year institution in order to complete the baccalaureate degree. Associate of General Studies Degree (AGS) | is offered for those students needing maximum flexibility in the selection of a course of study to meet individual employment, educational, and transfer needs.
ASSOCIATE DEGREES An Associate of Applied Science in Health Information Systems | instruction in human anatomy, the language used in the medical profession, regulations that govern the practice of medicine, and how to correctly code and bill for services provided while completing general education requirements for an associate degree.

Add Web Designer, Computer Technician. 3 | Office Technology is designed to provide essential training for students desiring to fill available office jobs. Secure office employment in the following industries: Banking, Education, Retail, Manufacturing, Small Business, Government. 4 | Registered Nursing - (LPN/LPTN/LVN to RN) is a 12-month program that combines classroom instruction with clinical experiences. Graduates of this program receive an AAS degree which prepares them to take the NCLEX-RN (Registered Nurses licensing examination).

UA Rich Mountain offers a variety of Technical and Proficiency certificates. Welding | instruction in Blueprint Reading, Hand Tools/Measuring Devices, Industrial Math, Arc Welding, Business Communications, and Industrial Computer Competency. Cosmetology | instruction in hairdressing, manicuring, hygiene/ sanitation, aesthetics, salesmanship and shop management. Nail Technician | classes are available for 1 semester, and students receive a Certificate of Proficiency upon completion. Students can enroll during Fall and Spring semesters if there is availability. Massage Therapy | classes are available for 1 semester and students receive a certificate and training to take the state board exam. Health Information Systems | instruction in human anatomy, the language used in the medical profession, regulations that govern the practice of medicine, and how to correctly code and bill for services provided. Culinary Arts | instruction to prepare students for a wide range of professional careers in the food service industry.
Machine Tool Technology | instruction to meet the high demand of manufacturing technology. Students will operate manual machines and computer numerical control machines. Information Technology/Business | this program qualifies students for immediate employment in businesses which involve computer information processing and computer operations. Office Technology | designed to give students a basic education in business courses that will enable them to secure entry-level office jobs as Clerk Typist, Bookkeeping/Accounting Clerk, Bank Teller/ Receptionist. Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) | 11-month program that combines classroom instruction with clinical experience. Graduates of this program receive a Technical Certificate which prepares them to take the NCLEX-PN (Practical Nurses licensing examination). Early Childhood Development (CDA) | 12 hour program enabling the student to pass the Child Development Associate (CDA) assessment. The CDA certificate is specifically
designed for students who are pursuing a career working with children birth to 5 years of age. Emergency Medical Technology | 128 hour program of instruction and clinical experience. Graduates of this program receive a Certificate of Proficiency which prepares them for the basic EMT certification administered by the AR Health Department. Certified Nursing Assistant | 112 hour program of instruction with clinical experience . Graduates of this program receive a Certificate of Proficiency which prepares them for certification administered by the Arkansas Office of Long Term Care. Web Design | 15 hour program preparing students for creating functioning business or personal websites, creating interactive websites and obtaining a web developer position. Computer Programming | 15 hour program preparing students to create basic computer programs, create GUI java applications, and obtaining an entry level computer programming position. Computer Systems Technology | 9 hour program preparing the student for an entry level position as a Computer Technician, Network Support Specialist trainee, Bench Technician, or Help Desk Analyst. General Studies | Certificate of General Studies Degree is offered for those students needing maximum flexibility in the selection of a course of study to meet individual employment, educational, and transfer needs.

Foundation Scholarships Foundation Scholarships are made possible by contributions from generous individuals, community groups, and businesses. • The deadline for submission is April 1st, December 1st, and July 30th. Applicants are approved by the UA Rich Mountain Scholarship Committee and are awarded as funds are available.
Academic Scholarships UA Rich Mountain offers a limited number of performancebased scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the UA Rich Mountain service area. UA Rich Mountain bases these scholarships on academic and scholastic achievement, community service, and leadership characteristics. • The Board of Visitors - Applicants must have at least a 3.75 GPA and ACT composite score of 25. • The Chancellor - Applicants must have at least a 3.50 GPA and ACT composite score of 24 • The Vice Chancellors Scholarship - Applicants must have at least a 3.0 GPA and ACT composite score of 23.
Students may obtain application forms from high school counselors, the Financial Aid Office at UA Rich Mountain, or online at uarichmountain.edu. High school seniors graduating in May or June must submit the completed application form by the November 15th priority deadline. In addition, each applicant should also meet the following criteria: • Enroll in at least 12 semester credit hours at UA Rich Mountain.
GED Scholarships UA Rich Mountain may award the GED Scholarship to a graduate of the UA Rich Mountain Adult Education Center. • To qualify, students must make a composite score of 540 or higher
on the GED exam and must have attended the GED program as a fulltime student at UA Rich Mountain. • The student must complete an essay stating the reason for requesting the scholarship. • The deadline for submission of essay is July 30, and the student must submit the essay to the Adult Education Coordinator. • The recipient must enroll on a full-time basis to be eligible.
Ouachita Promise Scholarships UA Rich Mountain has established a scholarship program which permits a scholarship for a limited number of deserving students. This academic scholarship is valid for enrollment in a certificate of proficiency program, technical certificate program, or an associate degree program. This scholarship can cover the remaining cost after all other awards have been utilized. Award amounts are based on the availability of funds. Students may obtain an Ouachita Promise application from the Financial Aid Office at UA Rich Mountain, or online at uarichmountain.edu. Provide a short essay stating educational goals and reasons for requesting the scholarship. • Preference given to applicants who are NOT eligible for Financial Aid. • Student must complete the current year FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov • Successful Completion of course(s) with a “C” or better.

Transfer Services
Student Support Services (SSS) is a Title IV TRIO Project funded by the United States Department of Education. SSS offers a variety of services designed to help students enter and graduate from college. Services are FREE to qualified students.
UA Rich Mountain offers several degrees which transfer to colleges and universities in the state of Arkansas. On site transfer specialists can create degree programs specific to your desired field of study beyond UA Rich Mountain. Appointments can be made with these specialists by calling 479-394-7622, ext 1440 or ext 1430.
Student Support Services can help students improve study skills; prepare resumes and letters to obtain employment; make career decisions; provide computer and internet access; provide peer and professional tutors in all subject areas; provide study guides, handouts and notes from various academic classes; provide group and individual visits to other college campuses; provide aid for completing all forms necessary for transfer to four-year institutions; and set up appointments with advisors, financial aid counselor, and/or other offices at transferring institutions.
Library The UA Rich Mountain Johnson Learning Commons is a quiet place to study and a great resource for computers and getting help in your classes. The commons has access to print books and electronic books, a vast database you can tap into for references, copying and printing services, quiet study rooms, computers, formatting and documentation services, and tutoring for all classes FREE to UA Rich Mountain students!

Rich Mountain is part of the Ouachita Mountain range, the highest between the Appalachians and the Rockies and offers the splendor of the 54 mile Talimena Scenic Drive. Enjoy numerous crystal clear lakes and streams, ATV trails, canoeing/kayaking, horse back riding, fishing, hunting, golfing, hiking, and more.
Education Opportunity Center Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a federally funded TRiO Program that offers free assistance to adults (19 and older) with the process of completing the high school equivalency certification and/or enrolling in and completing a post-secondary education degree or certificate. The EOC Program at UA Rich Mountain aims to assist individuals with the process of applying for financial aid and admissions to enter college at any institution in Arkansas or the United States. EOC can help with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), completing college admissions applications, locating and enrolling in GED programs, and administering the Accuplacer Exam for college placement.
Bookstore The College Bookstore offers textbooks, paper, supplies, clothing, and miscellaneous personal items for sale. American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa are accepted for purchases, as well as personal checks. The bookstore also has snacks, coffee, and tea available for students to purchase Monday through Thursday 8 a.m.-7:30 p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Mountain Range Grill The Mountain Range Grill is open Monday through Friday 7:30
STUDEN Mountain
a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The Mountain Range Grill is located in the Student Union in the Maddox Building at the Mena campus. The grill serves a wide range of breakfast and lunch items including omelets, biscuit sandwiches, burgers, salads, and wraps.
Testing Center The Testing Center supports academic testing for our applicants, and outside the classroom for currently enrolled students. The UA Rich Mountain Testing Center administers the Accuplacer for Course Placement, Proctor service for online classes, PSB test for our LPN Program and other Health Occupations, NACE exam for our RN Program applicants, ParaPro Assessment, NOCTI Assessments, and CLEP exams for college credits. For additional testing information, you may contact the Testing Center at (479) 394-7622, ext. 1422, or visit Tower Room Suite # 144 located in the Maddox Building.
Veteran Services UA Rich Mountain participates in the National Guard 25% waiver. Please contact the Financial Aid Office to determine if you qualify for this waiver. The Financial Aid Office at UA Rich Mountain is responsible for certifying all students receiving Veteran’s Educational Benefits. The Department of Veterans Affairs determines eligibility for such programs. Students must apply for benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs by completing the VONAPP at www.gibill.va.gov.
Disability Services Reasonable accommodations for persons with documented disabilities will be made, pursuant to federal and state law. Any student with a disability who needs accommodation (e.g. seating placement or arrangement for examinations) should request the accommodation at the beginning of each semester or term. The Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs will make the determination regarding appropriate accommodations. It is the responsibility of the student to provide the necessary documentation.

Career Pathways BOOKSTORE - on the Mena campus providing students with the essentials to get them through their day.
The mission of the Career Pathways Program (CPI) at UA Rich Mountain is to assist eligible adults, who are parents, in meeting education and employment training goals in order to acquire and maintain a self-sustaining job and career pathway. CPI provides intensive student services as well as financial services that can include tutoring, book & supply loans, transportation assistance, childcare assistance, and tuition assistance.

Trust us when we say that there is not a shortage of things to do after class. Between ping-pong tournaments, kayaking trips and concerts, there is something for everyone at UA Rich Mountain. The only hard part about it all is picking which activity that you would have time to do.

The College founded the Beta Eta Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) in 1998. The purpose of the group, a national scholastic honor organization, is to recognize outstanding academic achievement in community and junior colleges. Additionally, PTK promotes the development of leadership and service and the cultivation of fellowship among qualified students. Membership is by invitation. To be eligible, a student must have a 3.5 grade-point average in at least 12 semester credit hours from UA Rich Mountain. Members are eligible to apply for many scholarships for continued study and will have the opportunity to participate in community service projects. Community Service projects include: Hunt for Literacy each Spring for area pre-school children, Mena Downtown Trick or Treat, Constitution Day Treasure Hunt at UA Rich Mountain. PTK Members also help with UARM new student orientation and lead the campus tours each semester.
Actors Guild/Theatre
The Actors Guild/Rich Mountain Theatre has produced more than ten productions since inception in 2010 including: Graceland, Killer’s Head, Zoo Story, Winnie The Pooh, The Bully Show, Simply Shakespeare, The Good Doctor, Love Letters, The Foreigner and The Nina Variations. The Actors’ Guild also takes part in The American College Theatre Festival is proud to be invited to attend the ACTF regional festival in 2012 at the University of Oklahoma. The Actors’ Guild is
also proud to present the on campus Variety Show which is in the sixth season. Members of the Actors’ Guild have taken a trip to New York City to watch live theatre on and off Broadway. Those interested in theatre have the ability to see shows at the Arkansas Rep Theatre and Theatre Squared to view professional theatre productions presented in the state.
Science Club
The mission of the UA Rich Mountain Science Club is to promote the advancement of the sciences through education, research, discovery, and public awareness by equipping the next generation of scientists, engineers, researchers, and technology leaders with the resources and information that will foster and encourage the advancement of the sciences. The club shall provide students with dynamic opportunities outside of the classroom including multidisciplinary discussions, lectures, and events that will offer both students as well as members of the community non-traditional forms of education and public awareness, promoting academic growth and collaboration with scientists and engineers to better serve the local community and society at large. The Science Club hosts an annual Science Fair that involves local schools and students. Also, Science Club organizes Community Cleanups around the campus area.
Student Government Association
The SGA shall serve as the student governance vehicle. The SGA shall represent, lead, and unify the student body; aid the college in its large purposes of education; make recommendations concerning student issues to the UA-Rich Mountain administration; act as a means of preserving and attaining the well-being of the college community; encourage enthusiastic school support. Student Government is run by appointed students to represent and serve the UA Rich Mountain student body and be proactive in events and activities. SGA plans and organizes events for student life on campus at UA Rich Mountain. The annual events include Welcome Back Lunches, Halloween Event, Finals Lunches, Movie Nights, and more. Students also attended the APCA conference to schedule contract acts for each semester.

Student Ambassadors
UA Rich Mountain Ambassadors are student spokespersons for the college. An ambassador is a voice and supporter of Rich Mountain. Under the supervision of the Recruiter, the ambassadors will help out with campus events, give tours of the campus, work in the admissions office, and attend recruitment activities off campus. An ambassador must have attended one of UA Rich Mountain’s seven service area schools (Acorn, Caddo Hills, Cossatot River, Mena, Mt. Ida, Oden, or Waldron), be home schooled in one of the service area counties, or be a nontraditional student. UA Rich Mountain Ambassadors must excel in their academics, display campus pride, and possess great communication skills.
