LIGHT THE WAY
FROM A SMALL HISTORY
Founded in 1965 in a house on the Arthur Ashe Boulevard, Richmond Montessori School now resides on an 11 acre campus that supports students from 18 months through 8th grade. The school’s high standards and success in connecting students with inspired learning is reflected in our status as the only dually accredited Montessori school in the region through American Montessori Schools and the Virginia Association of Independent Schools.
The goal of Montessori Education at RMS is simple yet grand in scope: The development of a complete human being oriented to the environment, and adapted to his or her time, place, and culture.
TO A THRIVING SCHOOL The School currently serves 308 students from 34 zip codes representing 21 nationalities.
WHAT MAKES RMS A THRIVING SCHOOL? A long history of diverse family and staff population that creates a direct experience of global community. Stellar, Montessori-certified faculty and staff to support student growth and development. Highly acclaimed early childhood education program. A capstone experience in middle school that supports the development of conscientious citizens. Commitment to an authentic Montessori education and to connecting other schools and educators with the powerful methodology. Dual accreditation that holds the school to over 200 standards that ensure a diverse and dynamic education grounded in principles of student well being and education best practices.
RMS IS STRENGTHENING THE FUTURE OF OUR COMMUNITY AND BEYOND THROUGH ENRICHING THE NEXT GENERATIONS The development of children who understand their purpose, their place within a community, and their ability to contribute to the world around them.
When I see the adults that my sons have become, it taps into the heart of what Richmond Montessori School did for them. They are fair, collaborative, and inclusive human beings. The school is making an impact on the larger world through their grads. - Amy H., Alumni Parent
COMMITMENT TO THE CONTINUUM RMS remains committed to the complete journey of students from 18 months through 8th grade. It is time for our campuses to fully reflect that commitment. To have space to meet the early childhood enrollment demands and support working families with greater after care capacity. To offer continuity between the elementary programs and create a space that is specifically designed for the middle school student experience.

We need your help to create the intentional and enriching environment that our students, teachers and staff need and deserve to realize their full potential as learners and educators.
