Flag-raising kicks off July 1

City will host events throughout Steveston all weekend long A special ceremonial flag raising will kick off a huge, day-long Canada Day celebration in Richmond, as the country marks its 150th birthday. Richmond City Council and other dignitaries will take part in the first ever ceremonial flag-raising at 8:30 a.m. in Fishermen’s Park at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site in Steveston. The flag-raising will kick off what’s being called “Richmond Canada Day” in Steveston, which features a free, fullday street party throughout the village, alongside the famed Steveston Salmon Festival. Aside from the Salmon Festival, the new street party will include a huge marketplace with more than 50 exhibitors, plus six stages of entertainment, including main stage performances by Wintersleep and Vancouver’s own blues duo Harpoonist & the Axe Murderer. The “Riverside Village” at Imperial Landing and Britannia Shipyards will
