erhaps nothing should surprise me when it comes to politics, but I have to admit, I did a double-take when I read a city councillor’s quote in Wednesday’s story about house sizes on farmland.

At issue is the fact Richmond has minimal restrictions when it comes to the size of home one can build on land in the Agriculture Land Reserve. As well, agricultural land is taxed less than residential or even industrial land.

This might have been OK at one time, but throw into the mix a red hot housing market and mind-boggling sums being spent on global land speculation, and we have little old farmhouses selling for upwards of $8 million and being replaced with a 22,000-square-foot mansion.

Suddenly, (well, not so suddenly, this has been brewing for awhile), the notion of a farmhouse owned by hardy folks plowing the fields out back is under attack.

While the city mulls over what to do, councilors voted on Monday to put a pause on ALR developments. At least, most did. The motion passed 8-1 with Alexa Loo being the lone opponent. The fact Coun. Loo opposed the moratorium isn’t a big surprise. She appears to be staking out a position even to the right of other right-wing city councillors of late.

What was a head-shaker was her comment that she opposed this “heavy handed” move because “we’re not a communist country.”

Say what?!

I get the point about state verses individual rights, but to imply a city council doesn’t have the right to determine some measure of building restrictions makes me wonder what she thinks she was elected to do. And let’s remember, there are far more laws and restrictions that work in favour of property owners. Are those “heavy handed?”

Regardless, her communist comment was outdone by her observation that people are “freaking out about a bunch of dirt.”

Some of the most prime agricultural land on the continent — a bunch of dirt? OK, but I should think that if droughts in California continue, that “bunch of dirt” could come in rather handy.

That said, Loo has a point. While some view these homes as obscenely large, if the concern is farming, their size may not make much difference in terms of how much a given farm can yield. She also notes there are other issues challenging farmers. True enough, but property price is one of them, and house size relates to that.

To drive the point home, Coun. Harold Steves presented council with a real estate ad: 6.5-acre lot sells for $7.9 million with a “maximum future building envelope” of 22,225-square-feet.

It’s hard to see how this kind of sale will grow anything but a lot more land speculation.

Michael Sanderson described his situation as living next to North Korea. I would argue it is more like Chernobyl... deserted and toxic.

Either way, we have a standoff that has so many twists and turns it would take a Robert Ludlum novel to explain. However, the assumption that the owner of the property must give what the “community” agreed to is ridiculous.

If more fitness space is what you think we need, ask Richmond council who took away half of the fitness area for the Richmond Oval Experience, wasting millions of dollars and now they play the Trump-esque tactics of misrepresenting the attendance.

Someone should lose their job over that debacle.

My point of view is that trying to “save” the fishing industry in Steveston is similar

to what the “The Donald” has promised the coal miners in Kentucky. Changing laws and zoning doesn’t make industry prosper, the market decides.

My suggestion for Mr. Sanderson is to approach Onni with a business plan for a fish off-loading or marine-related enterprise.

etting more Mounties walking the beat and more Chinese-speaking officers into the detachment are two of the top priorities for Richmond’s new top cop.

Supt. Will Ng, who’s taking over from Rennie Nessett, doesn’t officially step into his new role, leading Richmond RCMP, until next month. But he’s already sharpened his focus on key areas of improvement within his new detachment, starting with getting a greater police presence on the street.

“We’re going to try to increase the visibility on the streets and make officers more accessible to the public, to enhance the feeling of safety in Richmond,” Ng told the News on Thursday, citing public feedback in a recent review of police services as one of the reasons for the priority.

“We need to get officers out of their police cars and walking the streets in the community, talking to the likes of business owners.”

Ng — who began RCMP life in 1995 in Surrey, before carving out a distinguished career working in and leading specialized units across the Lower Mainland — said he plans to get more Mounties on the street by redirecting resources away from non-core police work, such as mental health calls.

“I’d like to reduce the calls for service that officers don’t need to go to,” explained Ng, who was born in Vancouver to Chinese immigrant parents.

“Mental health seems to be a high priority for our officers, in terms of resources. I’d like our officers to focus more on crime reduction.

“We do that by working with our partners at Vancouver Coastal Health. I recently visited a homeless shelter and they informed me eight out of 10 people that live there suffer from some form of mental health challenge and they call police at least three times per month to drive the patients to the hospital for observation.

“So (the officers are) getting sucked away to do that for one to two hours sometimes. There are ways we can reduce those types of calls.”

Enhancing current community policing programs, including the auxiliary service, said Ng, will also go a long way to directing the police energy to where he wants it to go.

“We also have a very strong volunteer base in Richmond; people want to help make Richmond safer and we’re going to be looking at more ways to leverage that assistance from the community.”

The fact that Ng speaks fluent Cantonese, and is working on improving his Mandarin, could very well be an asset, when it comes to encouraging more members of the city’s burgeoning Chinese-speaking community to engage with their local police force.

And hiring more officers that mirror that bilingual ability is very much on Ng’s agenda when he takes over the superintendent role next month, as he attempts to break down perceived barriers between the RCMP and the aforementioned community.

“I grew up here, but I still identify with Chinese culture, my parents are Chinese,

they immigrated here in 1965,” said Ng, who describes himself as “Canadian-Chinese.”

“Growing up in the Chinese community, I got to understand the culture and traditions and I hope to leverage that to enhance my awareness of the community here.

“I was in ESL (English as second language) until I was in Grade 2. So, I understand the challenges of language barriers and not being able to communicate something in English.

“Hopefully, we can bring in more officers with language abilities and have more auxiliary officers with language abilities, to be more reflective of the diversity that we see in the community, and I don’t just mean Chinese;

we have many different ethnicities in Richmond that don’t speak English.”

Ng acknowledged that some crimes in the city may go unreported due to language and cultural hurdles and one of his goals is to foster more trust in the community “Quite often, it could just be something as simple as language and they can’t provide a statement in English and therefore they feel it’s hopeless,” he said.

“I don’t want that. I want the community to have trust that the police will be able to speak in their language and be able to take a proper statement from them, so they will be willing to come forward, when there is crime.”

Improvements to the city’s Blockwatch programs, via more social media and “more exciting training” is also on the hit list for Ng. “Some of the neighbourhoods don’t have Blockwatch; we’re going to look at ways to bring them in.

“Eight-five per cent of break and enters take place in communities without Blockwatch. At the very least, we want to educate property owners to safeguard themselves and targetharden their homes.”

Ng said he wants to capitalize on Richmond’s “strong community engagement” and his detachment’s flourishing community program teams to further enhance public safety in a city he knows very well.

“My father worked at YVR as an aircraft mechanic for 25 years and I remember shopping at Woodwards at Lansdowne Mall when I was growing up,” recalled Ng, who has family in Steveston, through his wife, so spends much of his spare time in Richmond.

ne of the organizers of a parents group that challenged the Richmond School Board’s proposed LGBT policy is running as an independent in the upcoming provincial election.

Political newcomer Dong Pan is taking part in the May 9 race for the new Richmond North Centre seat, partly to draw attention to what he calls the board’s “lack of consultation” over its controversial sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) sensitivity plan.

Richmond resident and dad-of-two Pan — who, as well as being one of the founders of Parents Care, is a product manager in Richmond with global software company SAP — recognizes that the remit of an MLA doesn’t usually involve school board policy-making.

But he told the Richmond News this week that, as well as being motivated by economic issues in B.C., he’s been so “disturbed” by the school board’s actions, that he felt compelled to step up.

“Nearly 6,000 people signed a petition (presented to the board in opposition to the SOGI policy), but there has been next to no dialogue and no real consultation,” said Pan, who plans to take some vacation days to focus on his self-funded campaign.

“There seems to be an oppression of different viewpoints. If (the viewpoint) is not in the mainstream, they’re shut down and feel intimidated.

“This is not the only reason I’m running, but it is a social issue that demands attention.

We need to have free speech; we can’t have the thoughtpolice running Canada.”

Pan — who will be up against the BC Liberal’s Richmond Centre incumbent Teresa Wat and the BC NDP’s Lyren Chiu, also a political rookie — said the fact one of the parents associated with Parents Care was “heckled and hissed” at the last school board meeting is a “worrying sign” that needs to be addressed.

“Disagreement doesn’t mean discrimination. We live in a very multicultural city and multiculturalism means different viewpoints.”

Pan said that, if elected, he would, “encourage (school trustees) to have real dialogue with the parents and a real democratic process that reflects different views.”

Pan’s fellow Parents Care organizers, Colleen Howu and Flora Wen, told the News last month the SOGI policy, which is in the draft stage, is “discriminatory” and unfair to other minority groups — citing autistic kids and victims of cyberbullying.

Another concern raised by the group was the protection of “family values” and an apparent need for more scientific evidence on SOGI. Howu added that a SOGI policy could potentially convert otherwise heterosexual students.

Away from the SOGI issue, Pan said all three of B.C.’s main political parties have, when it comes to the economy, housing and education, “betrayed” voters’ interests and values.

“Their values don’t align with that of many people,” added Chinese-born Pan, who has worked all over the world, before settling down in Richmond in 2011.

“There doesn’t appear to be any long-term solutions; all we get from the government are Band-Aid solutions.”

Pan said the B.C. economy cannot sustain the current real estate market growth and the foreign-buyer tax only “provides temporary relief to the over-heated real estate market in the single-family house section,” adding that “such a market distortion is not the permanent cure.”

“The government must play a vital role in increasing the supply of housing; otherwise

the home price will continue to rise inevitably,” Pan states in his blog.

Building a geographically, multi-centered economy in Metro Vancouver, so people do not have to commute all the way to downtown Vancouver for well-paid jobs is one of the solutions offered

by Pan. In terms of education, Pan cited the chronic “under-

funding” of the province’s education system and that the B.C. government’s overreliance on energy-based industry is an Achilles heel that also needs attention, adding the focus should switch to a technology base.

Enforcement is said to be a key component of the new regulations.

As it stands today, one may not rent their home to more than two individuals under the city’s “boarding and lodging” rules. As such, it has always been illegal, and will remain illegal to rent (without a bed and breakfast licence) to more than two people — or at least more than two people who pay money.

An entire home can only be rented out for 30 days or longer; anything less would fall under boarding and lodging or B&B regulations.

“As has always been the case, any home occupant/owner or renter can have guests in their home, if non-paying, but would be subject to other city bylaws to ensure these numbers are not disruptive to neighbourhood etc.,” said spokesperson Ted Townsend.

Another scenario that could test bylaw officers is one in which a person lists multiple bedrooms on separate online listings.

To that extent, “the city will be communicating with residents and will continue to work with the chamber of commerce, B&B operators and webbased listing services such as AirBnB and Expedia, to raise awareness about the changes and their impacts on this industry.”

Fines for violations will increase from $250 to $1,000.

The new regulations will come into effect after final adoption of the bylaw amendments, which is expected to take place in late April.

T

he Cactus Club Café in Richmond is moving to a higher profile area of the city and could be open before the end of the year.

The popular dining and socializing venue — which has been at its current No. 3 and Lansdowne roads location for several years — is sliding south on No. 3 Road, down to Richmond Centre mall.

Permission was granted by the City of Richmond in February for exterior alterations to the new restaurant’s building, which is directly to the south of White Spot and opposite Cook Road.

Work has already started on renovating the former retail space and Cactus Club’s public relations manager, Divya Mohan, said the chain hopes to open at its new location late in 2017.

The alterations to the outside of the building include an enclosed patio and retractable awning, trees and landscaping.

Improvements are also planned for pedestrians at the site, with two, new, raised and realigned pedestrian crossings, which is anticipated will enhance accessibility to the mall entrance from No. 3 Road.

Mohan was unable, given that work is still in the early stages, to give an exact indication of the size or capacity of the new restaurant.

“We are moving into a highly visible space,” she added.

“If people think that then why not discuss the pros and cons of making it a reality. You have to have that dialogue between the two associations to start with and that’s where I approached it from.”

“Nigel and I are on good terms,” agreed Hart. “I don’t think it was too difficult to begin the conversation. I also think we have excellent people in our committees who are committed to it.”

The merger attempt is not out of desperation from either side.

Seafair is now the larger of the two associations with over 800 players, but both are healthy and could continue on business as usual.

Together, they would form the largest association in Pacific Coast Amateur — an estimated 1,300 players.

“If we don’t merge life goes on,” said Shackles. It’s just minor hockey. Both are doing well. No one is in desperate need that they have to merge. We just think it’s better for the community.

“This is a chance to take something and create the best association in the province.

When there is animosity between players from the respective associations, it’s typically at the “C” level these days as the majority of rep teams play at different tiers and don’t see each other.

“If the objective for your child to play sports is social, making friends and working together by being part of a team, then you can make the argument for a merged association,” said Hart. “We see situations at school where you have classrooms with some members from each association, and it can get unhealthy in some circumstances, if one is outnumbered, so to speak.

“If your objective is for your child to excel at your sport and to play on the best possible team, then merger is the right way to go. They are going to be playing with more athletes who have similar skills. It will be a strong rep program, for sure.”

Both agree there would be a potential loss in annual Community Gaming Grants with each association currently receiving separate funding.

Rivalry ignited by Seafair players staying put Mark Booth

is family was immersed in the Richmond Minor/Seafair rivalry for many years. Now, Derek Chichak suggests the timing is right for the associations to come together.

The lifelong Richmond resident served on the Seafair executive for seven years and also has extensive coaching experience with the organization — spending 10 seasons with its grassroots introduction program and several more guiding rep teams.

Chichak’s son, Andrew, was part of a very strong group coming through the association that would break the “unwritten rule” and change the path of local talent.

Instead of crossing over to play for Richmond Minor’s rep program for Pee Wee and beyond, the team decided to stay together and the rivalry was about to take off.

“You went to Seafair up to Atom and then went to Richmond Minor to play rep AAA. That’s just the way it was,” recalled Chichak. “When Seafair moved to the (Richmond) Ice Centre (then president) Frank Claassen asked why they were paying full price for ice time. He lobbied the city and got (subsidized ice). Now, suddenly, we were on the same playing field as Richmond Minor.

“Back then, Dave McLellan had been

brought in as our first professional coach. He ran these popular Friday night sessions that all the kids went to. When Andrew’s group had finished Atom, many of us didn’t want to leave Seafair.”

It took paying McLellan to coach the team for all the boys to stay. It would be the start of Seafair becoming a force at the older rep levels and it took advantage of competing at a lower AA tier, thanks to being a smaller association.

Seafair’s rep teams were eventually on par or surpassing Richmond Minor’s top squads. The rivalry hit a fevered pitch in 2008 when the Islanders defeated the host Blues in the AAA final of the Richmond International before nearly 1,000 spectators.

“That was unbelievable,” smiled Chichak, who was the winning coach that day. “It was almost surreal. I never expected the game to be that big. They had finally let us in the tournament, and I think it was pressure from within its own people to do it. We ended up winning it back-to-back years.”

Chichak’s success earned him a stint coaching at the junior B level with the Delta Ice Hawks. He then, ironically, coached Richmond Minor’s top Midget team for the 2015-16 campaign, before stepping away entirely last season.

The rivalry has been a big part of his coaching career, but now Chichak says a merger of the two associations would probably be best for everyone.

“Right now, minor hockey is really getting watered down. Kids now have academies, major midget, junior B and soon (Bantam) zone teams. It’s getting harder and harder to compete at that level,” he said.

“Sure, you can stack one team (at Seafair or Richmond Minor). But you have to look at the logistics that take place to always do that and the emotional stress that two associations cause. It really does take away from focusing on what you have to do to run the best program for the kids.

“There’s not two city councils running Richmond. So, why not have just one and be able to cover all the bases with it?

ew hobbies can be as enjoyable one moment and as frustrating the next as golf.

Golfers know a great putt can be quickly followed by a bad tee shot and maintaining their composure through the highs and lows of the game is a key to success on the links.

Maintaining that composure isn’t always easy, even for the professionals. It’s even more difficult for beginners, who quickly learn the game of golf involves more than just spending sunny weekend afternoons on pristine golf courses.

In fact, golf can be quite demanding, and beginners would be wise to heed a few of the following tips before hitting the course.

• Don’t commit to an expensive set of clubs right away Golf clubs can be very expensive, so beginners should buy an

affordable secondhand set of clubs so they can get the hang of what they like before spending a lot of money. Visit a pro shop and explain that you are just a beginner. The shop will likely make some valuable suggestions and might even let you try out a pair of clubs. In addition, many driving ranges allow customers to rent clubs, and this can be a great and inexpensive way to find the right clubs for you.

• Take lessons Even the very best at self-teaching might find it extremely difficult to become a self-taught golfer. When first trying your hand at golf, take some lessons and don’t expect to be playing 18 holes any time soon.

olfers rejoice! Those dreaded slices or hooks could become a thing of the distant past thanks to adjustable clubs and drivers. In addition to helping improve accuracy, adjustable clubs also lighten the load in your golf bag.

With a few twists of a wrench or even turning the shaft of the driver itself, golfers can adjust the face angle, loft and lie angle of the driver to hit the ball farther and straighter. Golfers can make small adjustments to create the right loft and improve distance without having to purchase a new club or visit a club fitter.

Adjustable golf clubs enable golfers to walk out onto the course with one driver and a few different shafts. With a couple of clicks from a wrench, a person can have an entirely new driver. Golf is a challenging pastime, but the following few pointers can help golfers hone their short games, long games and everything in between.

• Choose the right clubs There is more to selecting clubs than pulling any old iron out of your golf bag and whacking away. Wind, hazards and obstructions in landing areas should influence your decision of which club to use. Novice golfers may want to rely on their caddies to make club recommendations, and as they become more confident in their abilities they can start to make their own choices.

• Anchor your feet Anchor your foot behind the ball to drive the ball further. Right-handed players will keep the left foot anchored, and lefties will do the opposite. Do not lift your foot prematurely; otherwise, you can lose power and distance.

• Identify your weaknesses As with any hobby, identifying those areas that need the most work can help you become a better golfer. Keep track of each shot you take, and then look at the results to see which areas of your game need the most work.

• Fix your alignment Align your shots by assessing the target from behind the ball. Then set the clubface behind the golf ball and align it with the target before you enter your stance.

• Use your torso for power The torso is essential to a solid swing.

The impact of a slow-moving Estate Choosing an Executor is maybe the most difficult part of Estate planning. If you don’t have the luxury of choosing a spouse or child, who have some exposure to financial dealings or at least financial experience, the choice has to be thought out carefully and may turn out to be expensive for the Estate.

In addition, Estates usually take time to resolve. Even if there are no trusts for minor children, for example, Estates can take years to resolve. The effort an Executor has to make, balancing their duties with the expectations of beneficiaries, sometimes creates a stressful environment. Some Executors tend to resign from the Estate in such circumstances.

East Africa Food Crisis fundraiser: Sunday, April 3-7: The Richmond Oxfam Committee will once again be out in force this coming week (April 3-7) in Richmond Centre mall collecting for the “East Africa Food Crisis.” The char-

ity’s volunteers are raising funds and support for what Oxfam terms “the threat of four famines in 2017” and the “catastrophic betrayal of our common humanity.”

These famines, according to Oxfam, are already in South Sudan and are imminent in Somalia, Yemen and Nigeria, if nothing is done. In South Sudan, war has broken out and three million people have been driven from their homes, with 19 million people, overall, across east Africa facing food shortages.

“This is the first time that famine has been declared anywhere in the world since 2011,” said the Richmond Oxfam press release.

T

he Richmond Juvenile Blues can certainly relate to how the Richmond Bantam Ravens are feeling these days.

Both teams hosted their respective provincial championships and went unbeaten the entire tournament, only to lose the gold medal game to their opening day opponent.

For the Ravens, it was a stunning turnaround, having defeated the Tri-City Predators 9-1 four days earlier. The Blues had a much tougher task going up against the defending champion that had given them fits for much of the season.

Richmond opened the six-team event at Minoru Arena by doubling the North Vancouver Storm 4-2. It was the first win in four tries against their Pacific Coast Amateur rival. North Van produced 2-1 and 4-2 results in regular season play and the teams battled to a 1-1 tie in the Final Four playoffs.

The Blues still went on to be crowned PCAHA regular season and playoff champions. Trying to add a B.C. Hockey banner to complete the prestigious championship “hat trick” proved to be too tall of an order.

In front of a big crowd on Sunday night, the Storm Van set the tone by jumping out to a 2-0 lead and relied on sound defensive hockey the rest of the way for a 3-2

victory.

“They are an excellent team and played very well,” said Blues coach Harold Hait. “In the end, we had to beat them twice and go through the entire tournament without a loss. That is a lot to ask in that kind of format.”

The Storm entered the final day of the championships not even knowing if they would be playing for gold.

The Storm nursed their 2-1 lead into the third period when they capitalized on an odd man rush for what proved to be a huge insurance goal. The Blues scored in the final minute to make things interesting.

“North Van is a very physical and strong team who have some bigger boys,” added Hait. “They are tough to play against, especially when they have the lead.

They were also coming off that big win over Coquitlam.

“It’s been a great season and we came up one game short.”

The Blues’ disciplined play throughout the championships was recognized with B.C. Hockey’s Fair Play Award, presented to the team with least amount of penalty minutes.

Richmond also scored a tournament high 35 goals, led by Arjun Sodhi and Kevin Hart with six each.

Sodhi also topped all scorers with 12 points in five games. Elvis Jansons was right behind him with 11,

including five goals, while Hart finished with 10 points.

Brandon Wheeler was also outstanding in net.

Sodhi, Jansons and Wheeler are among seven in the Blues line-up graduating from minor hockey. They are joined by team captain Kieran Docherty, Roman Pallone, Braden Lynd and Alex Whitwham.

The Richmond roster for the championships also featured: Edvins Jansons, Cole MacKenzie, Tyler Hait, Samuel Twaites, Connor Bruce, Jeremy White, Justin Getz, Solomon Ivanoff, Alex Bernardini, Brady Wang, Jovan Jankovic and Midget “A” affiliate Kyle Gounder.

Injured goaltender Jordan Allen was unavailable for action, while Juvenile C2 callup Spencer Powell appeared in two games.

Hait was joined by the bench by Glenn Wheeler and juvenile grad Taylor McElwain.

It was March Madness on the basketball court and in the hockey rink for Katie Chan. This standout athlete helped the Steveston-London Sharks finish second at the Grade 8 Provincial Invitational Girls Basketball Championships, earning second team all-star honours in the process.

Katie then turned her attention full-time to hockey where she had a leading role with the powerhouse Richmond Bantam “A” Ravens. The high-scoring forward was a major force at last week’s provincials where the host Ravens dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to Tri-Cities in the final. It was their only loss of the championships. Two of them helped Richmond win the Bantam provincial title in 2015.

Greater Vancouver produced a 29-1 record in regular season play then swept a pair of games from the Kootenay Wild to advance to the championship series.

Choong had four points in game one, including a pair of goals as the Comets rolled to a 9-1 victory.

The sweep was then completed with a 5-1 triumph.

B.C. Hockey’s Midget Female AAA program consists of six zone-based teams that are spread across the province.

ichmond Ravens Female Hockey Association ushered out the 2016-17 season with its 20th annual Ice Classic at the Richmond Ice Centre last weekend.

The recreational tournament featured entries from Western Canada and the Western United States, participating in six divisions, ranging from Tyke to Midget. Among the winners were the host Ravens in the Pee Wee C2 and Bantam C2 Divisions. Both teams went undefeated.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES PETER, Jurgen Heinz

PRUNKL, Frank May 25, 1927 - March 22, 2017 With immense sorrow, our family says farewell to our beloved father, father-in-law, brother, grandfather, uncle, and husband Frank Prunkl, who passed away peacefully on March 22 in Kelowna, BC. His closest family members were all fortunate to see him, hold his hand, and express their love during his final days. Frank is survived by his wife Magdalena; his daughters Arlene Prunkl-Small (Bryan), Sandi Lovell (Tim), and Sue Alexander (Randy); his grandchildren, Brittany and Brayden Alexander; and his sister Maria Wienberg.

Frank was born in the ethnic German village of Setschanfeld, Yugoslavia. After enduring extreme hardships during and after WWII, he immigrated to Vancouver in 1951. He always credited Canada for giving him opportunities to live a peaceful and prosperous life.

Perhaps Frank’s greatest legacy was his 44-year commitment to his work for the Richmond School District. His life’s passion was caring for the children in the classrooms of Richmond’s schools. For decades, he was beloved by generations of RSD staff and students and their subsequent families.

After his “official” retirement in 1992 and a spectacular sendoff, he continued to work parttime for 20 years, retiring only when he could no longer drive. Outside of his work, Frank will always be remembered for his love of playing the harmonica and accordion. He was a kind, humble, gentle, quiet soul who was invariably positive with everyone he encountered. A loving father and a caring, involved grandfather, he will be immeasurably missed by his family and all who knew him.

No service by request. The family will celebrate Frank’s life at a private gathering in April. Messages of memories and condolences can be emailed to Sandi Lovell (née Prunkl) at slovell@telus.net.
