Design For Dogs

Feb. 24, Facings of America

For this event, local architects, interior designers, and home builders have been commissioned to design, build and donate unique and swanky doghouses to be auctioned off and compete for “Best in Show,” benefitting Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL). The custom dog dwellings will be judged by a panel of notable names and sniffed out by adoptable dogs. Guests will listen to live music as they bid on the clever shelters, mingle with the pets up for adoption, and enter to win raffle prizes. AAWL is Arizona’s oldest and largest no-kill shelter, helping to save more than 4000 homeless pets each year and funding life-saving programs like vaccine clinics, rural rescue efforts and community vet clinics. 5 p.m. General admission, $55; Two tickets, $100. www.designfordogs.org.

Beauty To The Rescue

Feb. 26, Mane Attraction Salon

Phoenix Animal Care Coalition (PACC911) brings more than 100 animal welfare organizations throughout Arizona to help save and rehome injured and displaced pets and to assist low-income families and the elderly with food for their pets. Visit with (or bring home) an adoptable dog from one of PACC911’s rescue partners, shop local boutiques, bid in the silent auction, or buy raffle tickets to support the cause at this fundraiser. Discounted salon services, including cut and style, blow dry, hair masque, braids, and chair massages, will be available, with all proceeds donated to PACC911. The Sound Of Music

March 3-5, Symphony Hall

Arizona Opera will presents the classic story of the von Trapp family, who flees Austria on the eve of World War II to avoid the Nazi occupation. Maria takes a job as governess to the seven von Trapp children, and falls in love with their widower father, all the while singing songs that have now become classics. The two lead roles in this company premiere are played by real-life couple Cadie Bryan and Jonathan Bryan, adding an extra touch of romance to this timeless story of love, music and morality.
