A BLOOMING BUSINESS

Sydney Crimmins’ custom silk floral installations add a pop of pizzazz to any venue

BY MELISSA

Sydney Crimmins’ burgeoning company, aptly called Garden Party Girls, allows customers to step into a world of glamour, romance, and fantasy – all while documenting their experiences via social media and video blogging. Her Instagram-worthy sumptuous silk flower installations are a win-win. They wow viewers and create instant buzz for venues.

Facets of the design world Crimmins has immersed herself in include tablescapes fashion, interior decor and visual blogging. Her knowledge and knack for combining colors, textures, and lighting paid off when she achieved the position of visual merchandiser and assistant manager at a small boutique in Mesa. A defining moment in her career came when the manager tasked her and her friend, who was the co-manager, to create the holiday party. The challenge was promising, but there were two caveats: a small budget and limited time. Despite the constraints, the two created a smash hit.

“That’s when we looked at each other and wondered if we should create an event planning business,” Crimmins says. “My friend ended up moving, but I took on private events like birthday parties, anniversaries and small weddings. I even provided the decor for a 1970s-themed party, and a glitzy Great Gatsby one.”

Crimmins’ foray into the world of floral backdrops came about when her ad for photobooths caught the eyes of the owners of the Fifty Shades of Rosé bar in downtown Scottsdale. The owners envisioned a permanent floral installation to target bridal parties and happy hours. Thanks to Crimmins’ aesthetic flair, the walls and bar area are now swathed in over 10,000 stems of silk stem pink peonies and white peonies, with some greenery and pink accents to complete the look. She also created a dramatic focal point by placing a colorful piano against a wall with the bar’s logo on top.

Through her company (www.gardenpartygirls.com), Crimmins is currently working on a large project series for Casa Amigos bar, also in downtown Scottsdale. The restaurant is doing an entire remodel and is inspired by the styles of Tulum, Mexico. Patrons can look forward to seeing authentic plaster on the walls, neutral colors, and greenery and lots of flowers above the rectangular bar, as well as in the hallways.

“The reason I love commercial installations so much is they help business owners succeed on their journey,” Crimmins says. “Thanks to my business, I have creative freedom, I get to build relationships, and I still get to be with my girls and husband, which are important priorities for me.”
