Ervin Mieden

April 6, 2016 Ervin James Mieden (Erv) born May 20, 1931, died peacefully in his sleep on April 6, 2016, at the Veteran’s Hospital in Madison after a long illness. Erv was born on the family farm outside of Kendall, WI to German immigrants Peter and Emma (Preuss) Mieden. The Korean conflict was astir, and he left home with friends after graduation in 1951 to serve in the Army. After being released from the Army in early 1952, he came to Madison to reunite with his high school sweetheart Eleanora Sartori. They married in 1952, raising seven well-rounded children and fostering two teenagers during their time on the farm. Erv worked for General Motors in Janesville, WI for a time in 1953, during which he realized he would be happier farming and being his own boss. Always a hands-on man, he was happiest in his workshop, or when hunting. Playing cards was a favorite indoor pastime, especially 500 and Euchre. In 1979, the family moved to northern Wisconsin to their dream home on a beautiful lake which provided many memories for family and friends. Following their time at the lake, they settled in Barneveld near the iconic water tower which withstood the 1984 tornado. After divorcing in 1986, Dad always a survivor, moved on and did a variety of jobs eventually retiring after working ten years for Certco delivering groceries. Erv found happiness with his long-time companion Jewell

Seland Huston Funeral Home La Farge • 608-625-4244

Many people are aware on Nov. 18, 2015 I suffered a stroke. The cause was determined to be an infection in my heart called endocarditis and on Dec. 1, 2015 I had open heart surgery. God had mercy on me right from the beginning as I was alone, yet miraculously made my way to my car where I prayed for help and minutes later, in drove Lauren the hero in answer to my prayer. My wife Kathy rushed to my side, slept in my room on a chair, gave me tireless support (possibly to the detriment of her own health as she now struggles with heart problems) and even took the burden of the seriousness of my situation as the Doctors made her aware they questioned my survival, but I was unaware my situation was so grave. Our daughters and other family members also jumped in, filling needs in my businesses and in our home. Along with our family; friends, customers and even strangers started to pray and offer help where needed, God bless you. It has been over 5 months now and while under tremendous grace, it has been a tough time in many ways. I am now doing some home inspections, but have been unable to resume my plumbing business with the limitations to my left side, but I plan to be back. Mick Cosgrove approached me regarding a benefit, which happened on April 2, 2016. First I want to thank all who planned, worked or donated to my benefit. Then I want to thank all who attended. Your generosity, not just financially, but also through prayers, well wishes and the sacrifice of time, are appreciated in ways we don’t have words to express. Thank you, thank you, thank you and God bless you! John Allbaugh
