ALIGNING COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS
2021
ANNUAL REPORT
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT/CEO As I look back, I am excited by all the positive steps that were taken by our organization and ultimately the community at large in 2021. We are continuing to live in strange times with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It is a world of extremes, and yet somewhere in the chaos, we have all found our way to move forward. Some businesses are struggling, while others are reporting record gains. Prices have gone up, workers are fewer and yet the economy still posted strong results. We have all had to adapt to everchanging requirements designed to keep us as close to normal as possible while protecting each other. Closer to home, we started the year in virtual format for events but were able to finish back in person. We largely returned to our normal program of work, but also made room for innovation. We continued to be a driving force of collaboration in our community, and I am excited to see the effects of this work continue on for many years to come. Despite the uncertainty, it was our busiest year of economic development work ever! The support of our members has been the backbone of our organization. Without your investment, we would not be taking these big steps forward. I also want to thank the strong leadership of our Boards of Directors including our 3 Chairs – Chris Hiner (Chamber Board), Carl Fernyak (RCDG Board), and DJ Daniels (Chamber Foundation Board). It has been my honor to serve with you. Looking ahead, I know that 2022 will bring even more new opportunities for our community, and a new strategic plan for our organization. I’m proud of where we are and ever excited for where we are heading! Onward! Jodie A. Perry, CCE, IOM, CCEO-AP
A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
2021 can be summed in a few words; uncertainty, opportunity, and perseverance. The Chamber helped in each of those. 2021 had multiple waves of uncertainty in which we were able to provide assistance. Be it financially or as a conduit of information to our members and beyond, the Chamber was there. The past year also provided many opportunities for our member businesses. Opportunity to expand, pivot, or completely reinvent oneself in an ever-changing business environment. The Chamber staff listened, connected, and provided guidance to many. Chris Hiner The Chamber and our members also persevered. Times were trying in one way or another for most, if not all of our members. The Chamber and our local governments found ways to provide grants to help weather the challenges. This publicprivate partnership is one we will remember for years to come and help springboard future investments to make Richland County thrive personally, professionally, and economically. Relationships built between the Chamber, our community, and member businesses years prior to 2021 have been a catalyst to weather these times. New relationships were formed during the past year as well which will serve all well into the future. I’m extremely proud to have been chair of this great organization. I’m even more proud of the Chamber staff and each one of our members for finding value in being an active voice of business. We still have the capacity to serve even more of our local businesses, so spread the word and invite them to join. Collectively, we are becoming a better Richland County. Christopher R. Hiner Director of Home Lending, Park National Bank Chamber Board Chair, 2020 & 2021

RICHLAND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT GROUP A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR
When I took over as Board Chair for the Richland Community Development Group in January 2020, no one knew that a worldwide pandemic would upend all our plans just a couple of months later. And yet, RCDG did not miss a beat during that time and pivoted quickly to helping businesses navigate the myriad of programs that were available, the workforce shortage, and supply chain concerns, among other things. Even with the challenges, the last two years have been extremely active with local businesses expanding and others looking to locate here. Our staff team along with our Board of Directors has worked together to ensure that we able to assist businesses who are ready to capitalize on the opportunities being presented. Carl Fernyak Workforce is the word of the day, and we are working hard to create a more robust local talent pipeline for businesses, provide access to critical funds to help upskill existing workers, and lead the conversations around talent attraction. There is much work left, but we are seeing progress already. Lastly, RCDG was founded with the goal of seeing community development progress in many needed areas. Our volunteer sectors have continued to stay active and grown in number. These sectors empower local people to make a change in the community, and they make our organization unique! Our affiliation with the Richland Area Chamber has continued to produce positive results and it has been a pleasure to serve as the Chair of this important organization in 2020 and 2021. I look forward to more good work ahead. Carl Fernyak CEO, Richland Source RCDG Board Chair, 2020 & 2021

MRA EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR The last two years at the Mansfield-Richland Area Educational Foundation have been very busy despite all that has been happening with the pandemic. Our flagship program – Leadership Unlimited – was able to be back in person starting in the fall of 2021 with a class of 25 students exploring the County each month. We added in more leadership development training as part of the program and the 40-year-old program is just as strong as ever! During COVID, we pivoted to deliver online leadership D.J. Daniels training through the “LU Learning Lab” Series. A mix of national and local speakers connected with local participants on a host of topics, and we heard great feedback on that opportunity. Our Young Entrepreneurs Academy has continued to meet and train up the next generation of entrepreneurs all through the pandemic. Between last year and this current year, we will have 9 new young entrepreneurs in this community. If you ever wonder how the next generation of kids is doing, I encourage you to tune in to their Investor Panel in the spring – I guarantee you’ll walk away inspired! It has been my pleasure to lead this Board over the last two years and work with Nikki Lewis the outgoing Chamber Foundation Manager as well as the other Board Members. A LOOK BACK
AT 2020
COVID Support Starting from early March, the Chamber provided over 40 email updates packed with information pertaining to the pandemic, impacts on businesses, and the community. We were able to share important resources that allowed our community to stay on top of all the available resources from the federal, state, and local levels. Richland Strong We launched the #RichlandCountySTRONG campaign to support our local small businesses as they were reopening after the initial shutdown. Partnering with local elected officials, we held 9 local ribbon cuttings throughout the County. Grants We partnered with the Richland County Commissioners, Cities of Mansfield, Shelby & Ontario, and Villages of Lexington, Bellville, and Plymouth to create a small business & nonprofit grant program. We awarded 468 grants totaling $2,705,324 to local businesses. Virtual Business Engagement At the onset of the COVID-19, the Chamber team sprang into action organizing a series of online training and learning opportunities. We also joined with the Regional Manufacturing Coalition to do a weekly call with local manufacturers and the Shelby CIC to do a weekly call with Shelby businesses providing updated information and encouraging peer networking.
FROM A MEMBER'S PERSPECTIVE “During the initial Covid surge, Jodie’s regular updates from the Chamber were a welcome and valuable compilation of information from a wide variety of sources. She kept us informed on important issues so we could focus on our employees and customers.” ~Marc Miller, Skybox Packaging, LLC.
