Bus service for rail station axed
The only bus service serving Filton Abbey Wood has been withdrawn. The X18 First service, which called at the station at rush hours as part of a route from Kingswood to Southmead Hospital, is understood to be no longer commercially viable. According to First, the X18 will also no longer stop at Filton Church and also at the MoD at Abbey Wood, with Long Mead in Cheswick being the nearest stop. It will still serve Parkway Station, Gloucester Road North and Southmead Road before terminating at Southmead Hospital. The change is one of a series of changes. Filton has already seen several bus services withdrawn, leading to residents in Conygre claiming they have been left without a proper service. The Filton Flyer service was also withdrawn last year after passenger numbers failed to make the service viable. Filton councillor Roger Hutchinson said: “ Among Turn to Page 5

A 20mph zone for the area around Shield Road Primary School has been approved, with nine streets set to be affected by the change. Approval was given at the recent Area Forum meeting after the issue of speed had been brought to the attention councillors by the school and a number of residents. As a further measure, there will also be raised speed bumps on Third Avenue and Shields Turn to Page 5
