Landlords must do more to stop waste menaces by Rebecca Day Landlords must take more responsibility when tenants fail to correctly dispose of their waste – and should be fined if problems persist. This is the call from residents in Shellard Road, Filton, who have grown frustrated with the amount of rubbish regularly mounting up in the street. Residents have taken to social media to express their frustration, saying that it is a house of multiple occupancy (HMO) causing the problem. A number of residents claim that they have been complaining to the council about the issue for over a year, but no action has been taken. Resident Karen Virgo said: “The residents in the road have been complaining to the council about the rubbish at this house for over a year now. The landlord doesn't care as he lives in Cambridge.” Another resident, Judy Dunne, commented: “That rubbish has been building up Turn to Page 4
