Community Garden 10th anniversary So much going on as garden marks 10 years

We can’t believe that 10 years have gone by since we officially opened the garden on 14 July 2013. So much has happened over the years as it has grown from a rather lost corner of Elm Park into a cherished space used and enjoyed by all quarters of the community.

To celebrate the 10 years we have some exciting projects in store for visitors to the garden:

Fairyland:

The fairy tree is being smartened up with a new letterbox and a call out for more ornaments to replace the broken and shabby ones. Fairy doors recently made by Filton big and little people have already been put up surrounding trees. We are planning more ‘Fairy Workshops’ so look out for these!

Encouraging Biodiversity: Dovetailing with the Filton Pollinator Project we are extending the variety of pollinator planting in sunny and shady spots and will be making a bog area, building a new bug hotel and adding more hedgehog homes.

Garden history:

Gathering photographs and memories to be published in a book. Please contribute your photos to our Flickr, Instagram and Facebook accounts with captions using #filtoncommunitygarden .

Mural:

With the conversion of the tennis courts to a MUGA (multi use games area), we will be moving and revamping the mural onto the garden facing side. You can get involved in the design of this - so watch out for that!

Decorations:

With help from the local primary schools and girl guiding we are looking forward to some wonderful displays on the fence and artwork in the flowerbeds.

Summer Fete Celebration: Put Sunday 25 June in your diaries for the usual fun packed afternoon with a few extras!!

Lantern parade:

In the Autumn as evenings shorten again we will make lanterns and have a colourful parade. Keep an eye out for workshop/parade details.
