From the Chairman

T

his year marks the 100th birthday of the National Park Service, an organization I had the privilege of leading. It’s hard to believe that our President would be older than the NPS, but that’s a fact. When President Nixon appointed me as the 8th NPS Director, news traveled fast, but the controversy arrived before I did. I took on the role with one Ronald H. Walker major marching order, to close the VIP houses used in excess by senators and congressmen. It was a tough job, but to be the caretaker of A merica’s treasures both God-given and man-made was the most rewarding role in government. We put parks in urban areas, large portions of A laskan wilderness on hold, shed light on lesser-known facilities and began planning the bicentennial of our Constitution. Happy 100th birthday to “America’s Best Idea.” I thank you, Mr. President for giving me the opportunity to be a part of it all.

The Richard Nixon Centennial Legacy Campaign

WE’RE 75% OF THE WAY THERE

R

ichard Nixon continually called for individuals to “get involved in a cause bigger than themselves.” The New Nixon Library, and its educational programming, will provide that opportunity. By advancing the principles President Nixon embodied throughout his career, we challenge growing civic disengagement and demonstrate the importance of greater involvement in the community, state, and country.

We’ve raised $19 million to completely renovate the Nixon Library and develop educational programs for civic engagement — our goal is $25 million. We invite your support as we take on this important mission.

“This campaign is not about erecting monuments to the past, but about learning from our history and stimulating young people to shape a better future.” — CHAIRMAN FRED MALEK

HOW TO GIVE We invite you to join us. There are many ways to give, all with tax benefits. To discuss specifics or naming opportunities, please contact Ian Delzer at ian@nixonfoundation.org or 714-364-1108.
