Go Green THE launch of a new era for pupils and staff at Yate International Academy will bring with it a name change for the school. From September it will be known as Yate Academy as it becomes part of the Greenshaw Learning Trust. The primary and nursery phases incorporated within the “all-through” educational establishment will be called Woodlands Primary and

Woodlands Nursery. For nearly a decade, the secondary, primary and nursery have been part of the Ridings’ Federation of Academies, which also runs Winterbourne International Academy. But that is coming to an end after the federation experienced financial problems, had poor Ofsted ratings for the Yate and Winterbourne schools and lost two consecutive chief executive principals.

A new sponsor was sought, leading to Yate joining Greenshaw and divorcing itself from the Ridings’ Federation. The link with Winterbourne was established when the former Ridings High School in the village was partnered with Yate’s King Edmund School in the early days of the academy system, with both being called international academies.
