Huge areas of land on list for possible housing LARGE areas of land around Yate and Chipping Sodbury appear on a council map of places that could be developed in the future. The areas highlighted include countryside between Yate and Coalpit Heath, locations currently used for light industrial estates and large areas to the east and south of Chipping Sodbury.
The sites are shown on an online map produced by South Gloucestershire Council, as part of its work on a new local plan. Landowners and developers were asked to put forward areas they thought could be built on. Claire Young, councillor for Westerleigh said: “It’s important that when the planners assess the sites they don’t lose sight of
why people want to live here in the first place. People don’t want to live in a suburb of Bristol or Yate.” The council says that by publishing the sites on the map there is no implication that they will be approved for development and the usual planning process would apply. Full story page 4
