Nathan Calder and Wesley Hawkes at the Poland-Ukraine border where they delivered aid from Emersons Green
Standing with Ukraine PEOPLE in the Yate and Sodbury area have come together to send help and show solidarity with Ukrainians after the Russian invasion which has claimed thousands of lives. People living in the area donated around 200 boxes of aid in the first weeks of the war, to send to help both refugees and those fighting for their country's survival.
And a father-of-three from Yate borrowed a van to drive across the border into Ukraine with a friend, to deliver some of the aid. Wesley Hawkes saw first hand the desperation of refugees waiting in freezing conditions to cross the border – and ordinary people preparing to take up arms and fight. Full story, pages 2 & 3
