HUMAN RESOURCES, LEGAL & REGULATORY Tuesday, April 27th

10:00am–10:50am Applying Technology to Recruiting........... Palomino H The recruiting landscape has changed dramatically in the last several years, and so has the technology available to help employers target and engage the best possible talent. This session will walk through what technology is available today to help you optimize your recruiting process, how some leading companies use technology to filter through increasing volumes of applications and provide a glimpse into what you can expect to see from recruiting technology in the near future. Presented by: Tyler Holbrook - VP, Solution Engineering, First Advantage 11:00am–11:50am Sports Betting ............................................. Palomino F The Criminal Code (the "Code") did not grant the provincial governments the unrestricted ability to conduct and manage sports betting. Instead, it limited them to those forms of sports betting which had been offered by governments between 1969 and 1985. The idea of having casinos with sports books was implicitly rejected, as betting on the outcomes of single sporting events was forbidden, along with certain other kinds of betting. A number of provincial governments began a letter-writing campaign to federal officials, seeking amendments to the Code to remove these restrictions. More recently, Joe Comartin, NDP Member of Parliament for Windsor-Tecumseh, has been working in association with the Canadian Gaming Association and the Canadian Auto Workers union to obtain such amendments. In 1985, these limitations were inserted on the basis of the rationale that betting on single sporting events and athletics contests, as well as any sort of betting on fights or races, would be open to match-fixing and potentially damage the integrity of sport. Our panel will review how the current prohibitions in the Code are applied to sports betting, where fantasy sports leagues fit into the scheme of the prohibitions, and other related issues. As well, we will consider what options exist for provincial lottery corporations, pending amendments to the Code. We will look at the U.S. experience in seeking to broaden sports betting opportunities in that country. Finally, we will consider whether the single-sport betting restriction continues to serve a public policy end, and the chances of the Code being amended to lift the restriction.'' Moderated by: Michael D. Lipton Q.C. – Senior Partner, Dickinson Wright LLP Panelists: Kevin Weber - Dickinson Wright LLP; Bob Stocker - Dickinson Wright LLP; Danielle Bush - Chitiz Pathak

Wednesday, April 28th

1:45pm – 2:35pm Essential Skills for the Gaming Industry Palomino H. Essential skills are the foundation skills employees need to function effectively in their positions and to grow to meet future needs in the gaming industry. Join us to learn more about the $700,000 national Essential Skills for the Gaming Industry Project sponsored by the Federal Government and supported by a national gaming advisory committee. This is a critical project that will unite gaming operators across Canada as we address the employee challenges of the future. Presented by: Judith Hayes – Director, Canadian Gaming Centre of Excellence 2:45pm–3:35pm Update on Online Gaming Issues from the Deputy Ministers Responsible for Justice CCSO Working Group........................................................... Palomino H The working group was established, at the request of the Province of Alberta to review legal questions and issues with online-gaming as the increase in popularity and activity of online operators in Canada. With gaming representatives from each jurisdiction the Working Group will report back to the Deputy Ministers of Justice. This session will provide an update on the working group’s activities and progress to date. Presented by: Cameron Smart – General Counsel/ Corporate Secretary, Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission 3:45pm–4:35pm Conduct & Management . ......................... Palomino H The Criminal Code requires that gaming be "conducted and managed" by either a provincial government, or a charitable or religious organization licensed by a province. What does this mean in practice? How have the courts interpreted this requirement? How have the provincial authorities chosen to follow the guidance provided by the courts? What role can legitimately be played by the private sector under this regime? Are all the limitations enforced by provincial authorities upon public-private sector relationships in the gaming industry justified on the case law concerning "conduct and management"? Is it time for a change in the "conduct and management" regime? Moderated by: Michael D. Lipton Q.C.– Senior Partner of Dickinson Wright LLP Panelists: Cameron Smart – General Counsel, Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission; Lyle Hall – Managing Director, HLT Advisory; Margaret McGee – VP Business Innovation, Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY The Corporate Social Responsibility Track at the 2010 Summit will showcase the best of Canada’s gaming industry from world leading initiatives in responsible gaming to the latest practices in environmental stewardship and stakeholder engagement. Join experts from across Canada to learn the latest from the gaming industry’s CSR experts

Tuesday, April 27th

9:00am – 9:50am Corporate Social Responsibility: Engaging andLearning from our Stakeholders......... Palomino F After Manitoba Lotteries’ Board approved a CSR Policy in 2006, Manitoba Lotteries senior management embarked on developing a comprehensive strategy to guide its corporate social responsibility commitment. Stakeholder engagement was identified as a key component that would help inform our corporate efforts towards ‘authenticity’. Stakeholder groups were identified, and research was conducted in early 2009 with four priority groups. The research results have yielded rich information about how Manitoba Lotteries is doing in its efforts to be an ‘authentic’ organization. The research results are being used by our CSR committee to further develop our CSR approach. Presented by: Susan Olynik - Vice President, Communications & Public Affairs, Manitoba Lotteries Corporation 10:00am – 10:50am Canadian Strategies for Owning the RG Podium.............................. Palomino F In 2008 CEOs and senior responsible gambling staff from most of the Canadian gaming jurisdictions gathered for two days to discuss the status of their collective responsible gambling efforts. Their vision: to position the Canadian industry as leaders in this area. The challenge: while most jurisdictions were justifiably proud of their individual efforts, there was little effective collaboration between jurisdictions. After little more than a year, there is commitment to a national responsible gambling agenda and a roadmap of collaborative efforts in four key areas: research, player communications, training and programming. This session will provide an overview of the national Responsible Gambling framework, along with a review of many of the 21 projects that have been identified as work priorities for this important ILC sub-committee. Moderated By: Paul W. Smith – Director Corporate Social Responsibility, British Columbia Lottery Corporation Panelist: Bev Mehmel - Vice Chair, Director, RG Programs + Research, Manitoba Lotteries

Wednesday, April 28th

1:45pm – 2:35pm GameSense: Don’t talk to ME about Responsible Gambling .................................................... Palomino F The Challenges: 1. How do we, gaming operators, deliver information to “at risk” players without making them feel we think they may be problem gamblers? 2. How do we present responsible gambling messages/ materials in a way that the general public recognizes our efforts? BCLC’s response: BCLC has taken a “branding” approach to its responsible gambling program, and through that process has abolished use the term “responsible gambling”. In April 2009 BCLC launched “GameSense” at BC casinos and community gaming centres. The launch included a complete redesign of the Responsible Play Information Centres, posters, brochures, the RG interactive kiosk and the corporation’s web site (www.GameSense.ca ). Through presentation of before/after research, video and product samples, this session will take attendees through the GameSense story, the strategies behind the brand, and into a British Columbia casino to learn first hand about this unique approach to player education. Presented by: Paul W. Smith – Director Corporate Social Responsibility, British Columbia Lottery Corporation 3:45pm – 4:35pm RG Check - An Accreditation Program Setting the Standard of Leadership in Responsible Gambling................................ Palomino F Gaming providers have been investing significant time and resources in the past decade in their ‘responsible gambling programs’. But, till now, there have been no benchmarks for assessing the quality of these investments. The Responsible Gambling Council, an independent non-profit dedicated to problem gambling prevention, has created a set of voluntary standards for the RG components of gaming operations. In 2010, the Council is offering industry leaders the opportunity for accreditation through its new “RG Check” program. This presentation will provide information about the standards and the accreditation process. Presented by: Jon Kelly – CEO, Responsible Gambling Council

MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS

Tuesday, April 27th

9:00am–9:50am Media Relations in the Gaming Industry – Managing Messages and Their Impact ..................... Palomino H When it comes to media relations in the gaming industry, the old maxim that “all publicity is good publicity” couldn’t be further from the truth. While the majority of industry coverage can at times seem unfriendly or imbalanced, two bigger question exist: What impact is the media having on revenue, relationships, and the ability to do business? And what other options are available to get the word out that don’t rely on traditional media relations? Moderated by: Paul Burns – Vice President, Canadian Gaming Association Panelist: Amanda Brewer – Account Director, Hill and Knowlton Canada; Howard A. Blank - Vice President of Communications, Entertainment & Responsible Gaming, Great Canadian Gaming Corporation 11:00am–11:50am Utilizing Social Media in your Marketing Mix ........................................... Palomino H Traditional Media, New Media, Social Media? Twitter, WAP, SMS, Smartphones, Facebook? Mobile Marketing, Database Marketing, Microsites?

24 / Canadian Gaming Summit 2010

With so many communication platforms available today, how do you select the right tactics for your marketing mix? And more importantly, how do you integrate your traditional media spend with some or all of the new and powerful social media tools available today? How do we measure success and calculate ROI? And what’s coming next? Will Smartphones become the new delivery mechanism for loyalty programs? What are WAP sites and how can they help venues and marketers generate new and incremental revenues? This session will identify evolving best practices, present a few fascinating Social Media case studies and host discussion on the evolution of marketing mix. Presented by: Stephen Dick – Vice President, BrandFire Marketing Group; Brian Smith – Founder, Adz2Mobile

1:45pm – 2:35pm Customer Relationship Management Strategy........................... Quarter Horse The industry is facing serious challenges ranging from declining revenues, social responsibility issues, lottery ticket ownership and new channels. All of these are directly related to the customer and the provincial corporation’s ability to manage their relationship with the customer. The provincial corporations are looking to build the capability but it isn’t a simple purchase. It involves a well thought out strategy,

organizational changes, process transformation, expensive technology and significant risks. The journey or roadmap starts with an effective CRM strategy that will transcend functions/business lines and continues with clear incremental phases that deliver value regularly while ensuring the principles of responsible gaming are adhered to. The incredible opportunity here is to truly know and serve your customers in a way that delivers maximum benefits to both customers and the corporation; but with the opportunity comes the expectation that the data will be used to protect the consumer and their information. Presented by: Brad Hutchings - Partner, Deloitte 2:45pm–3:35pm How Do You Turn a Sponsorship into Casino Visits? . ....................................... Quarter Horse This session will present two case studies that helped clients activate sponsorships for their brands. You will learn how Casino Regina activated their season sponsorship of the Saskatchewan Roughriders to bring Rider fans into the casino. The campaign created a game day experience on the floor and at the game. These activities brought fans from the game to the casino while also generating more Player Club signups. You will find out how Tourism Saskatchewan uses its sponsorships to bring people to the province. From a trade show in Denver to the Olympics in Vancouver, a program was developed for Tourism Saskatchewan that generated social media buzz, had people lining up to visit their booth and at the same time built a great database. This will be an interactive presentation where you can see and try the promotion. Presented by: David Bellerive – Vice President, Creative Services & Media, The Phoenix Group; Darren Mitchell – Vice President, Account Planning, The Phoenix Group 3:45pm–4:35pm Supercharging Your Casino Brand....... Quarter Horse Increasing competition and a declining economy are pressuring casinos to buy business. Image erosion and player disloyalty may be a fall-out from these tactics. Strong brands and a superior position in the market place create irrational loyalty and lead to market share premiums. This session will explain how to: • Measure your competitive strengths, • Determine the best target audience to achieve your financial goals, • Develop a sustainable position and • Improve the effectiveness of advertising dollars Presented by: Gary Border – President, Marketing Results
