"The secret of good golf course design is to make the player think, but not make them think too much."
— Donald Ross

"I’M NOT SAYING MY GOLF GAME IS BAD, BUT IF I GREW TOMATOES, THEY’D COME UP SLICED."
Golf Rule of the Month: Rule 7 - Ball Search: Finding and Identifying Ball
7.4 Ball Accidentally Moved in Trying to Find or Identify It

There is no penalty if the player’s ball is accidentally moved by the player, opponent or anyone else while trying to find or identify it But if the player causes the ball to move before they start to search for the ball, the player gets one penalty stroke under Rule 9 4b
Under this Rule, “accidentally” includes when the ball is moved by anyone taking reasonable actions to find the ball that were likely to reveal the ball’s location by moving it (such as by sweeping feet through long grass or shaking a tree)
In these situations, the ball must be replaced on its original spot (which if not known must be estimated) (see Rule 14 2) In doing so:
If the ball was on, under or against any immovable obstruction, integral object, boundary object or growing or attached natural object, the ball must be replaced on its original spot on, under or against such object (see Rule 14 2c)
If the ball was covered by sand, the original lie must be re-created and the ball must be replaced in that lie (see Rule 14 2d(1)) But the player may leave a small part of the ball visible when doing so
See also Rule 15 1a (restriction on deliberately removing certain loose impediments before replacing ball)
Penalty for Breach of Rule 7 4: General Penalty*
*Loss of hole in match play or two penalty strokes in stroke play.*

March was eventful for the greens department following the LPGA event in February. There was no “slow down” as we kept up the intensity for the Men’s invitational, WGA championships, and other pertinent events at the club. Feedback has been great from all the events, and we will continue preparations for a busy April for the season's final events. I always like to include a weather report from the previous month and month we are leading up to. March tried to warm up for us, but we still had nighttime temperatures, mostly in the 50’s, with a few even in the 40’s. The extended forecast looks great for the start of April, with average temperatures during the day in the 80’s while at night in the 60’s. This should bode well for Bermuda grass’ growth motivation.
We will most likely see little rainfall as we get into April and May. The putting greens become most challenging during these shoulder months of increased heat, dry wind, and being compacted from a long winter season of golf play. The biggest issue we will work to mitigate is the sodium and bicarbonate stress they will endure during this time because of poor irrigation water quality. We will be doing best practices from a soil application and irrigation management perspective to get through this period and maintain the health of the greens to get them to the finish line of our aerification program. As said last month, we are still working on our due diligence with the USGA and their modern technology to provide helpful management data for green maintenance and provide suitable pin placements daily. We should have this up and rolling by the end of April.
For the rest of the golf course, we are hitting our marks on pest management applications that have historically stricken BCC. Last year, the golf course was afflicted by spring Bermudagrass mite damage. This pest particularly likes the rough grass, and we have made our rounds with the correct measures to prevent that from occurring this year. Next up will be to start attacking the nematodes. We have evident nematode pressure, and now is the time with the soil temperatures rising, they will become active for us to start controlling. Our goal is to have our roughs in the healthiest position before major growing months in order for them to bring on full density from June through October. Fairways and tees are in good condition. We will start to see more “hot spots” this time of year due to the lack of rain and our sodium-induced irrigation water. We have some smaller tees showing some traffic wear and many divots. We will have to micromanage these moving forward with more fertility and good water management. I am going to propose bringing in a contractor to shoot some laser grades of our bunker floors. It seems that the floors are off grade for balls to roll back to the bottoms of the bunkers away from the edges. I will work through this with the committee and board and communicate my findings next month.
We are encouraged by the current course conditions leading into the summer season. The better we can be this time of year, the better head start we have going into the summer, which leads to a healthier golf course going into next fall. We hope you enjoy the rest of this golf season with the remaining golf events we have.
Yours truly,
JAMIE MCCROSKY

THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING GREEN JACKET
A FICTITIOUS STORY
- Anonymous

It was the final round of the Masters, and Augusta National was buzzing with excitement. The leaderboard was tight, the azaleas were in full bloom, and Jim Nantz was whispering poetic phrases into his microphone. But behind the scenes, absolute chaos was unfolding—the Green Jacket was missing.
The Augusta officials were losing their minds. Had it been stolen? Misplaced? Was Phil Mickelson playing another prank? Time was running out—tradition states that the champion must be presented with the jacket immediately after sinking the winning putt. If they didn’t find it soon, the winner might have to be crowned in a borrowed windbreaker from the pro shop.
With the clubhouse in full search-and-destroy mode, a bartender casually mentioned, “I saw some caddie walking off with it earlier… weird fit for him, though.” Panic set in. The thought of a Green Jacket being worn as a raincoat in a golf cart barn was enough to make the tournament committee break into a cold sweat.
Just when all hope seemed lost, a nervous clubhouse waiter tiptoed out of the kitchen, holding the missing jacket with tongs. Turns out, a rookie caddie—overwhelmed by Augusta’s strict dress code—had mistaken it for a club blazer and neatly hung it in the staff coatroom. Worse yet, in an effort to be helpful, the kitchen staff had steamed it next to a tray of hot biscuits.
Crisis averted, the jacket was whisked away just in time for the ceremony. However, if you rewatch the broadcast from that year, rumor has it you can still spot a faint pimento cheese stain on the lapel. And as for the caddie? Well, let’s just say he never looped at Augusta again.

“To
win at golf, you have to learn how to make peace with the game."

COUNTRY CLUB 2025 MEN’S INVITATIONAL CHAMPIONS
BRADENTON
QUOTE BY JACK NICKALAUS

THE VISIONARY OF GOLF COURSE DESIGN
The Masters Tournament, one of golf’s most prestigious events, has a history as rich as the game itself. Founded in 1934 by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, the tournament was created to bring together the best golfers in the world at Augusta National Golf Club, a course Jones co-designed with the legendary Alister MacKenzie.
From the very beginning, the Masters set itself apart with its traditions—the Green Jacket, first awarded in 1949, has become one of the most recognizable symbols in sports. The tournament’s invitation-only field, pristine course conditions, and iconic holes like Amen Corner add to its mystique.
Legends have been made at Augusta, from Jack Nicklaus’ record six victories to Tiger Woods’ historic 1997 win, reshaping the sport for future generations. Today, the Masters remains a showcase of skill, strategy, and history, where each April, a new chapter is written in golf’s grandest tradition.
"YOU CAN’T GO TO A STORE AND BUY A GREEN JACKET. YOU HAVE TO EARN IT."
- Tiger Woods
2019 Masters victory press conference
This win was one of the greatest comebacks in sports history, marking his first major championship victory in 11 years, his 5 Green Jacket, and his first Masters win since 2005. th

One of Alister MacKenzie's most famous quotes about Augusta National reflects his vision for the course:
"The ideal golf course is one that creates a test of golf for the expert, yet is easy and enjoyable for the average player... Augusta National embodies this principle more than any other."
His philosophy of strategy, beauty, and natural flow is what makes Augusta National one of the most revered courses in the world.

Holes 11, 12, and 13 at Augusta National are famously known as “Amen Corner.” The name was coined by sportswriter Herbert Warren Wind in 1958 to describe the most crucial stretch of the course.
The winner of the Par 3 Contest has never won the Masters in the same year. Many players believe winning it brings bad luck!
