FINAL SCHEDULED COURSE MAINTENANCE CLOSURE As we wrap up our scheduled course maintenance operations for the season, Bradenton Country Club will observe one final full-day closure on Tuesday, September 15. This closure will allow our team to complete the remaining planned maintenance work and put the finishing touches on the course following this summer’s scheduled operations. On September 15, all Club operations and amenities will be closed for the day. We appreciate our members’ patience and understanding throughout these scheduled closures and look forward to completing this final phase of maintenance.

LETTER FROM THE CLUB MANAGER Dear Members, It’s wonderful to have the Club fully open again, and I hope you’ve had an opportunity to enjoy some of the improvements made throughout the property during our summer closure. Our team has been hard at work, and we’re excited to have everyone back enjoying the Club. As we look ahead, we’re eager to kick off another great season at Bradenton Country Club and especially look forward to welcoming back the many familiar faces we’ve missed over the summer months. I’m also pleased to congratulate Joe Burbee on his promotion to Director of Golf. LETTER FROM GOLF DEPARTMENT Members, September has arrived and we are looking forward to a great cool down coming soon. Our team is preparing for a great season with interesting tournaments, a great golf shop, great instruction and great camaraderie. A few notes: Cold Face Towels: We have begun our Cold Face Towel program. This involves the placement of two clear-front refrigerators - one in the Player Amenity Area by the Golf Shop and one at Morand House - to house cold towels for use to cool down during your round. We ask that you use the towels and place them in the bins under/near the refrigerators when done. These towels should make your summer rounds a bit more enjoyable! Finalizing Club Calendar: The club events calendar will be released at the end of September. Members will be sent a link to access Golf Genius and all club golf events. Ship Sticks: For those members traveling remember that we are available to help with any Ship Sticks shipping of clubs to or from the club. We have boxes and are more than happy to help! Club Repair: This is a good time of year to take stock of your grips and let us know if you need any re-gripped or repaired during this slow time. We have a large selection of grips - and are able to order any kind you would like - even if not in our current stock. Regrips can usually be done in just a few days.

LETTER FROM GOLF DEPARTMENT Golf Shop: Our main clothing vendors for Men this year will be Peter Millar, Holderness & Bourne and FootJoy. Ladies main lines will include Belyn Key, IBKUL and a few others. We also have a few cool new accessory lines - Spartina & OTG247! Thank you to all the ladies who responded to our survey. Event Committee Volunteers: We are looking for members to volunteer to be on the committees for our larger events and couples events. Please e-mail jburbee@bradentoncc.org if you are interested in having an impact on events! This will include formats, purses, etc., and themes for couples events. Sean, Tyler, Paul and the entire team are very excited about the upcoming season and will do our best to make it great! Please reach out if you have any thoughts or suggestions. We are here for our members and look forward to the year ahead!

BCC JUNIOR MEMBER SPOTLIGHT: BCC was fortunate enough to have FOUR of our junior golfers qualify for the Drive, Chip & Putt Sub-Regionals at ChampionsGate. All four are talented young golfers and excelled at the local qualifiers. As the fields get smaller they get more competitive and it is an experience filled with nerves and excitement - as a trip to Augusta National for the finals awaits the final winners. Our four juniors were: Ruthie Ball (Girls 10-11) Houston Collins (Boys 10-11) Benjamin Erb (Boys 10-11) Emily Brown (Girls 10-11) While none of them advanced further, we congratulate them for making it so far! We also would like congratulate Emily Brown for winning the Putting Medal in her Girls Division 10-11 with a total of 55 POINTS! Great putting Emily! Drive, Chip & Putt happens every year so here's hoping we have more BCC Juniors advance next year - maybe even to Augusta National!

Friday Social Clinic with Tyler Carlson

Every Friday except for days where the club is closed and days of member events. Ages 4-6: 3:45pm - 4:30pm Ages 7-13: 4:30pm - 5:30pm Heavy focus on having fun and learning the fundamentals of the game. The new format lets our instructors focus on age-appropriate fundamentals for our youngest golfers while giving our older juniors more room to work on advanced skills. Cost $25 per kid

Saturday Advanced Clinic with Sean Jacklin Every Saturday except for days where the club is closed and days of member events. 9:00am - 11:00am Heavy focus on instruction and taking the next step for young juniors who want to take their game to the next level. Cost $60 per kid

AGRONOMY UPDATE Dear Members, Welcome to the September edition of the BCC Golf Maintenance Newsletter. Mother Nature, still undefeated, continues to be the story here at BCC. We followed up our 10.2 inches of total rainfall in July with 11.2 inches in August. The only saving grace was that it was spread out a little better than July, and we had more events with smaller individual totals, rather than a couple massive dumps of rain. That being said, we are still dealing with some wet areas in the fairways, typically around our drains. We ask for your continued patience and care if these areas are staked off, or unmowed for a short time. We had a successful maintenance closure from 7/27 through 8/17. During this time we were able to accomplish a tremendous number of cultural practices that will set us up for healthy turf this winter. The greens were solid-tine aerified and topdressed and also “Wetjected” twice during this time. This process involves using a machine to inject sand 3” deep into the green without the surface disruption of removing a core or “plug”. They were also verticut and topdressed 3 additional times. A lot of sand was added to the profile during these procedures! This sand dilutes organic matter, allows for better water and air movement through the profile, and creates a firmer playing surface. Tees were core aerified and topdressed heavily. Fairways were solid-tine aerified and topdressed. We lowered the mowing height and “circle cut” the tees, fairways, and approaches to minimize grain. You may have noticed some of our collar areas still look a little rough. The Tifgrand Bermuda grass on our collars has proven to be a little slower to recover from our aggressive cultural practices than our tee and fairway turf. These areas have our attention and are getting extra fertilizer and watering to make sure they are back healthy as soon as possible. Our supplemental irrigation project was completed on time and on budget with minimal disruption to the course. You will see the areas where the new pipes were trenched in, and all the larger areas were re-sodded to minimize golfer impact. The final tally was 66 new sprinkler heads and despite the never-ending rain, I can already see the benefits.

AGRONOMY UPDATE CONT. As we head into September and beyond, here are some of the areas that my team will be focusing on to prepare us for the upcoming season: 1)Putting green health!! The things we do to the greens all summer long help determine how successful our greens will be this winter. I am sure you have heard that experts are predicting an extreme “El Nino” winter. What this means for us is we are predicted to have a cooler, wetter, and stormier winter than normal. Cooler temps and fewer hours of sunlight can have a drastic effect on bermudagrass health. That is why we are doing everything we can now to push root depth and promote overall plant health. Any areas like the front left of 2 green will be resodded if the turf doesn’t recover in a timely fashion. 2)Turf coverage on fairways is a top priority. We have some areas where the turf has not responded as well as I would have hoped following aerification and topdressing. These areas will be on weekly “grow in” programs including nematode treatments, weed abatement, and supplemental fertilizer applications. We still have 6-8 weeks of weather where our bermudagrass is actively growing. We will make every effort to have 100% turf coverage before our busy season is upon us. 3)Growing back all of the stressed areas on our collars and approaches. 4)Weed management is still a daily concern. We are actively spraying weeds in the turf including sedge, goosegrass, tropical signalgrass, and everybody’s favorite, spotted spurge. We have identified a better program for pre-emergent weed control which will be applied mid-September during our two-day closure. This will set us up better for controlling weeds in the future. As we get through the summer and into the fall I look forward to meeting many of you who I haven’t had the chance to meet yet. RACQUET SPORTS UPDATE Dear Members, Despite the heat and some truly crazy rainstorms rolling through, play here at the club hasn't slowed down one bit. Between returning programs and constant social play, court demand last month was higher then any August I can remember, so please be sure to book your courts early to secure your preferred times.

Programs in Full Swing: Our programming schedule is firing on all cylinders. The ladies’ groups are back in full swing with incredible energy, strong turnout, and great competition on the courts. At the same time, our after-school Junior Programs are officially back in session! We are especially thrilled to see huge numbers in our youngest development clinics. Seeing so many young players picking up racquets and building their fundamentals is fantastic news for the future of our program and the sport of tennis as a whole.

Clay Court Update: Recent rains have certainly kept our racquet staff on their toes, working double-time to repair washouts and keep the clay exactly where it belongs. The hard work has truly paid off, the increased water content has made the courts play remarkably pillow-soft and forgiving underfoot, delivering some of the most comfortable playing surfaces of the year.

Fall Pros Return: Looking ahead to fall, seasonal pros Jack Steyn and Jeff Otterbein will be returning in October! Both pros have already started taking bookings for private and semi-private lessons upon their return. Be sure to reach out soon to reserve your spot on their calendars before their availability fills up. Thank you all for bringing so much life and excitement to our club every day.
