Tournament Format & Competition Details
Tournament Format
The Men’s Invitational will be conducted as a Better Ball of Partners Net Match Play competition. Flights will consist of six teams each and have been determined by the combined handicap indices of the partners as of March 1st (prior 6 month low). Each team will compete in five nine-hole matches, playing once against every other team within its respective flight. The winner of each flight will be the team that accumulates the greatest number of points over the course of those five matches.
Handicapping
All players have been assigned a playing handicap based on the tees being played and their handicap index, set at each player’s prior 6-month low as of March 1st. In each match, the handicaps of all four players will be played from the low handicap player in the group. The Committee reserves the right to adjust any player’s handicap during the competition if it is deemed appropriate.
Tees
All participants will play from the 63 tees unless their age plus handicap index equals 80 or higher, in which case they will be eligible to play from the 55 tees.
Tournament Format & Competition Details
Scoring Format
Each match will be worth a total of 10 points, awarded as follows:
1 point for each hole won
1/2 point for each halved hole
1 additional point awarded to the team that wins the overall match
In the event a match is halved, each team will receive 1/2 point for the match. All nine holes must be played.
Teams competing against a no-show or withdrawal will be awarded a maximum of 6 points.
If a flight is missing a team prior to the start of the tournament, matches against par will be used in its place. In such cases, a team may earn no more than 7 points against par and may lose no more than 7 points to par.
Tie Breakers
If a flight ends in a tie for either 1st or 2nd place, the following tie breakers will be applied in order:
1.Head-to-head result
2.Total against common opponent(s), if the event is rain-shortened
3.Largest margin of victory in Match 5, then Match 4, Match 3, Match 2, and Match 1
Tournament Format & Competition Details
Wild Card Team
The Wild Card Team will be the team with the highest overall point total in the tournament that did not win its flight. That team will earn a place in the Shootout.
If a tie exists for the Wild Card position, it will be determined by:
Most points earned in Match 5, then 4, 3, 2, and 1
If still tied, a coin toss
Flusher Flight
After completion of the first three matches, the team with the lowest point total in each flight will advance to the Flusher Flight. These 10 teams will compete for the title of Flusher Flight Champion. The winner of the Flusher Flight will also earn entry into the Shootout.
Tie breakers for entry into the Flusher Flight will be:
Lowest point total in Match 3, then Match 2, then Match 1
If still tied, a coin toss
Any tie for the Flusher Flight championship will be decided by a sudden-death chip-off, as there will be no head-to-head result available.
Tournament Format & Competition Details
Shootout
The Overall Champion of the Men’s Invitational will be determined through a Shootout featuring the 10 flight winners, the Wild Card team, and the Flusher Flight Champion. The Shootout will be played in an alternate shot format and handicapped based on USGA recommendation, played off the low team in the field.
One team member will choose to tee off on the first hole, and partners will alternate shots thereafter until eliminated or victorious. The final remaining team will be crowned Men’s Invitational Champion. The Shootout will be contested on the Stadium Hole which will be #11 this year The Morand House will provide a great backdrop and allow players the opportunity to have cold drinks, and cheer on the teams competing.
Rain Policy
There is no scheduled rain date. Any matches not completed due to weather will be canceled. Only points from matches completed by the entire flight will count toward the final standings.
