R-H SPCA Joins in Kitten Bowl III The North Shore Animal League selected the R-H SPCA to participate in Kitten Bowl III, delighting us all! We were thrilled to be chosen as a participating site; only about 40 organizations from around the country partnered with North Shore to put on this exciting event. Kitten Bowl III was enjoyed by all. We want to thank Sports Commentator Gary Calleo Simms, Assistant Sports Commentator Katie Greyard Oliver, Coach Nina Rivera Smith, Coach Patty Kubiak May, Referee Lee Bean, and the wonderful JMU cheerleaders (#JMUCheer) and football players (@JMUFootball) who volunteered to help with the Kitten Scrimmage. Thanks also to our dedicated volunteers who provided food for the event, and all of our wonderful community supporters for coming out to cheer our teams on! The Tuxes narrowly beat the Tortis in the last few seconds of the game! Seventeen kittens and one rabbit found forever homes that day!

Our animals are able to receive vet care, food, and a warm place to live, thanks to your generous donations. Your donations help us find forever homes for our animals. As you may know, we are an open admission shelter; we take in all animals that come through our doors, regardless of age, health, or temperament. Housing, feeding, and caring for these animals is quite expensive. We rely on your support to continue offering this service to our community.

SPCA Looks for Ways to Better Serve Our Community

The shelter was pleased to welcome Animal Welfare Management Services in mid-January for a shelter evaluation. The evaluation was proposed and funded by Rockingham County and the City of Harrisonburg to gather information to help develop a long-range plan. The city and county routinely hire outside evaluators to review processes and procedures of municipal services, such as fire and rescue, emergency communications center, etc. We appreciated the input of our volunteers, staff, donors, and the community at large, and we look forward to hearing the evaluator’s feedback. We would like to thank the city and county for funding the evaluation.
