Cat Success Story: ASPCA Cat Transport

Thanks to a partnership with a ASPCA relocation and transport program, the R-H SPCA was able to transport a total of 19 cats to a shelter in Massachusetts. These cats were transported to a shelter where they have a greater chance of adoption, while our shelter makes room for a busy kitten season. Thank you for the generous support! 7 year old, Emmy Peery visited the shelter with her mom, Meg Peery, and sister, Caroline Peery, to donate a variety of dog and cat toys as well as food. Our furry friends say thank you!

Thank you to the 2nd grade class at Fulks Run Elementary School who produced and sold Chex Mix and donated the proceeds to the shelter. Their donation has made a difference in the lives of the homeless animals!

The Ashby Animal Clinic donated two Jeeps full of food for our shelter animals. The animals truely appreciate their generousity! We thank them for their contribution to helping serve and protect the homeless animals in our community!

Foster Success Story: Ricky Gets a Chance The day before Christmas Eve, volunteer dog walker Jana Landes came to the shelter to walk dogs. In between walks, she stopped by the front desk to ask if we had any dogs that might benefit from being in a foster home. wwThe first dog that came to mind was Ricky. Ricky is an American English Coonhound mix who had been at the shelter for almost two months. Like many hounds we see, Ricky came to us as a stray on the skinny side, most likely a hunting dog who got separated from the pack and couldn’t find his way back. wwDuring his time at the shelter, Ricky was always a sweet and gentle soul, but was a very nervous little fellow. He would sit curled up in a little ball on his bed, patiently waiting for someone to offer him a treat. He would take them ever so gently from your hand, but not before he does a few spins around his kennel, and steadily working up the courage to approach the front of his enclosure and take it lightly from their hand. wwGoing home with the Landes family was literally the opportunity of a lifetime for Ricky. A few days into his stay in his foster home, we received an update from them: “Ricky has been such a sweetheart! He has been great with our boys, dogs, and only curious with the cat. He loves a soft doggie bed, treats, and lots of petting. He has such potential and just needs time to build up his confidence.” wwWhile Ricky was out in foster care, he received an adoption application from someone who had seen him on our website. They set up a time for the adopter to go to the foster’s house and it was love at first sight. wwWe receive updates on Ricky regularly. He is slowly but surely continuing to come out of his shell, gaining confidence and becoming the family dog we knew he could be. All this was thanks to a foster who gave him a chance!
