Celebrating Five Generations of Leadership
DR. RICHARD HENRY BOYD FOUNDER 1896–1922
Richard Henry Boyd, a pioneering clergyman, educator, entrepreneur, and civil rights leader, founded the National Baptist Publishing Board (NBPB), now R.H. Boyd, in 1896. Within a decade, it had become the nation’s largest Black publishing house, advancing education, faith, and opportunity.

1922–1959
In 1922, Dr. Henry Allen Boyd, a son of R.H. Boyd, assumed leadership of NBPB and the National Baptist Congress, expanding publishing and strengthening institutional reach. By 1934, NBPB served more than 20,000 churches worldwide.
DR. T. B. BOYD, JR.
1959–1979
Beginning in 1959, Dr. Boyd, Jr. led NBPB through the Civil Rights Movement, emphasizing unity, innovation, and leadership within the Black Church. A supporter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., whom he hosted at the 1960 Congress, he guided the organization through a period of profound social change.

1979–2017
Under his leadership, the NBPB and the Congress grew significantly through innovation and modernization. His leadership included the development of a new corporate headquarters, launching The New National Baptist Hymnal, 21st Century Edition, and establishing the R.H. Boyd Family Endowment Fund.

• Message: Participants will learn that taking care of their physical and mental health is essential, just like cowboys care for their trusty steed (horse). They’ll discover how healthy habits help them serve God and others better.
Lesson 2: Care for My Relationships (Key Verse: Matthew 7:12)
• Message: In this lesson, learners will explore the importance of friendships and family, learning how to “lasso” love and kindness in their interactions, thus building strong bonds in their community.
Lesson 3: Care for My World (Key Verse: Genesis 1:26,28)
• Message: Learners will become “Earth Rangers,” understanding how to care for God’s creation. They’ll learn about protecting the environment and being responsible stewards of the land, just like pioneers tended to their homesteads.

Awarded to junior or senior members of the African diaspora attending Spelman College in pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics or related fields of study with a 3.25 GPA or higher. Students may apply for this scholarship directly through Spelman College.
