A1: Still Life

After opening Photoshop, I changed to Photography mode in and zoomed in. I selected a clock near the middle of the page with the regular “lasso” tool to begin. After making an adjustment layer I turned the saturation up and made it a pinkish hue. I repeated this process with the other clocks but I made them different colors to give the photo more contrast. I also used the object selection and found that when some of my adjustment layers needed editing because they included objects that I didn’t want.

A3: Vector Masking

I opened the photo in Photoshop and entered the paths window. I then attached the paths to layers and used the pen tool to create a path in and around the car and to define the details. Then I removed the background and added a new photo to the back. I used an adjustment layer to make the van fit the color palette of the photo better and added a shadow. I also blurred out part of the van using the brush tool later in the process.

A4: Sculpture Textures

I opened the photo in Photoshop and cropped out the background. Then I added a background that looks similar to outer space. I used the polygonal lasso tool to create layers of the textures with different parts of the body and warped them to make them bend toward the shape of the body. I changed the filters and settings to my liking and blended the textures together with the pen tool.

A5: Graffitti Wall

I was unsure about the clone stamping initially because of how set the edges needed to be. After editing the bricks over the photo, I used the smudge tool to blend the bricks together and the dodge tool to lighten up some of the darker areas overtop of the window. Additionally, I added the graffiti with the brush tool and added some additional colors through the filters.

A7: Tracing

I found myself having to take breaks. I started off using the pen tool to trace the major shapes that made up the face and hat. I traced the bigger shapes of the overalls and shoes. I had to take more time on the shoes because of the shading on the bottom. Additionally, I had to take time to do the smaller features on the body and clothes. I got frustrated multiple times but I’m glad I was able to complete the project even if it’s not perfect.

A8: Logo Design

For the logo process, I spent majority of my time trying to use the clipping mask for the photo. I enjoyed being able to make creative choices and use different fonts, colors, and logos. I made three different version of the logo with varying curves and designing concepts.

I drew through the shapes according to the video and the shape started to form. Then I attempted to color the shapes. For some reason, the hardest part of this tutorial for me was trying to figure out how to change the colors of the gradient section. I kept getting black and white initially and I got frustrated. Later, I was able to figure it out and play around with the placement of the gradients.

A11: Movie Poster

I found it difficult to layer images. When I tried to include the title made on Illustrator, it didn’t work so I had to go through the place option in InDesign. After that I didn’t have too many issues. I had fun looking up tutorials and thinking of unique ways to enhance the title and make it stand out. After removing the background from the characters, I was able to add a reflection and include a text box.

THE MOVIE

After breaking unspoken monstering rules, an unlikely monster combo must band together to work through a scary situation. Their strengths and weaknesses are highlighted at every turn. Will they be able to get back to the monster world?

A12: Trifold Brochure

I started off with the main cover of using the Crumbl colors and including the branch of the store that is closest to Nova! I made the logo on Illustrator by tracing a picture of it from the internet. I then searched for reviews about the store and added some of my own. I played with having a combination of black and pink for the backgrounds and I included the cookie flavors for this week.

A13: Magazine Cover

When I started this project, I had ideas for the format but I wasn’t completely sure how I wanted to approach the magazine as a whole. I decided later to make my magazine about Black Excellence and my subsections are based on Black excellence in different areas like entertainment, sports, fashion, and media. I wanted to make this magazine as colorful as possible. The place tool really helped me in thus project to ensure everything landed in the right spaces.
