I am delighted to share with you details of the Sports Scholarship assessment opportunities at RGS Worcester. We believe that Sport is about more than results: it builds resilience, teamwork and confidence, while encouraging individual ambition and enjoyment.

Our Sports Scholarships recognise pupils who demonstrate talent, promise and dedication, and provide them with the coaching, support and facilities to achieve their very best. Through our Athlete Development Programme, pupils benefit from structured strength and conditioning, performance analysis and tailored mentoring. This holistic approach ensures that every young athlete, whether aiming to represent the School, their county or beyond - is supported to grow both on and off the field.

My role as Director of Sport As Director of Sport at RGS Worcester, I oversee the breadth of sporting opportunities across the School. With over twenty years’ experience in nationally successful programmes, an MSc in Professional Development in Sport Coaching and as a Level 4 Coach and Coach Developer, I am passionate about ensuring that every pupil, whatever their sport, has the support and guidance to develop their skills, character and enjoyment of the game.

Cricket at RGS Worcester Cricket is a thriving sport for both girls and boys at RGS Worcester. The programme is led by Mr Liam Smith, who brings extensive experience as both a player and coach across grassroots and professional levels. A former Worcestershire CCC Academy graduate, he played for Worcestershire CCC 2nd XI and Herefordshire Minor Counties, and was a Cricket Scholar at a leading boarding school, reaching the National T20 Finals Day. Alongside his playing background, Mr Smith has coached both men’s and women’s teams overseas, working with a wide range of age groups and alongside successful professional players. His broad experience and passion for cricket underpin a high-performance culture at RGS Worcester, where every pupil is supported to grow, whether their goal is enjoyment, development or elite performance.

Scholarship Information Scholarships are awarded on the basis of each player’s ability and potential as shown in their assessments. An award may carry a fee remission or be offered on an honorary basis and can be combined with means-tested bursaries where applicable.
