Schooldays are to be cherished. This time is to explore, to learn, to grow.
At RGS Prep, every child is encouraged to become their own extraordinary self. Our school is a place where each pupil receives an exceptional education within a community grounded in warmth, identity and shared purpose.
As we become a co educational school, we are excited to welcome all children into an environment where theyWe are immensely proud of our heritage and our forward‑thinking approach. Together, they nurture an environment that helps children thrive in a world that is constantly evolving.
Children thrive here because they are known, supported and gently challenged in equal measure. They join a community of curious, like minded learners who find joy in discovery, and that collective enthusiasm creates a sense of energy that is felt by pupils and teachers alike.
Our wish is for RGS Prep pupils, encouraged by their wide ranging experiences and anchored by the values we have upheld for centuries, to carry the distinctive RGS spirit into the world. We hope they will be recognised not only for their knowledge and talents, but for the respectful intelligence and thoughtful character that will enrich their own lives and the lives of others.
RGS Guildford. Timeless values, shared futures.
Step through our doors and you will feel the energy and warmth that fill the school.
The natural buzz that flows through every classroom and corridor at RGS Prep is something I will never tire of. It comes from the genuine happiness of our pupils and their shared excitement for learning; a feeling that is unmistakable the moment you arrive. This uplifting energy propels our children forward on their educational journey and can be seen in so many aspects of school life: in their academic achievements, their creative and sporting successes, the smiles on their faces, and the thoughtful way they interact with friends and teachers.
We take great pride in seeing each child for who they truly are. Every pupil is supported with care and encouragement, helping them grow into the very best version
of themselves. This nurturing environment promotes confidence, emotional intelligence and a readiness to think with curiosity and independence.
Learning extends far beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, pupils immerse themselves in a rich programme of trips, workshops, performances and joint activities with other schools. These carefully crafted experiences broaden children’s understanding of the world, spark enthusiasm, and deepen their engagement with learning.
I hope you enjoy discovering what makes RGS Prep such a special place, and I look forward to welcoming you very soon.
MR TOBY FREEMAN-DAY
RGS Prep is a joyful environment where every child is encouraged to develop their own unique blend of talents, interests and individuality.
We celebrate these differences with genuine pride. From the moment pupils join us, they are supported to grow both personally and academically, and we take great pride in seeing them thrive in all areas of school life.
In the early years, a strong emphasis on learning through play helps children grow in curiosity, independence and creative expression. We nurture their sense of wonder and help them explore their early ideas with confidence and imagination. As they move through the school, pupils enjoy a rich variety of experiences, from trips and workshops to performances and visits, all designed to broaden their horizons and deepen their love of learning.

We support children as they work towards their goals, develop their creativity and build confidence and resilience. We place emphasis on shared celebration and mutual encouragement. Achievements are recognised, and success is celebrated as a community, reflecting our belief that respect and support are equally as important as individual accomplishment.

The Good Schools Guide
THE RGS PREP EXPERIENCE
The RGS is a kind, inclusive, tolerant community where diverse opportunity, personal development, high achievement and collaborative partnership define who we are, and where our values underpin all we do.
Our School Values are at the very heart of our ethos.
Inclusivity
We remain loyal to our founding principles to educate bright local pupils, irrespective of background or financial circumstances, and we inherently believe in establishing a culture of diversity and acceptance, and in educating our pupils in a welcoming, tolerant community where each individual is valued and enjoys a deep sense of belonging.
Integrity Scholarship
We encourage the growth of intellectual curiosity, independence, creativity, innovation and habits of learning within a scholarly community through inspirational subject specialists who provoke and stretch the pupils’ minds and inculcate a lifelong love of learning.
We promote the development of self discipline and responsibility, spirituality and a personal moral code, and cultivate an ethos where enduring qualities of decency, honesty, courtesy, humility and good humour are celebrated.
Courage Respect
We nurture an atmosphere of mutual respect between all members of our community, and foster self respect and self esteem in terms of physical health, emotional maturity and personal well being, while establishing lasting friendships in a positive, happy environment.
We develop leadership, teamwork, resilience and life skills through a diverse range of activities where all pupils, regardless of their talents and attributes, are encouraged to challenge themselves, take appropriate risks and work hard to fulfil their potential.
"Kindness, tolerance and mutual respect pervade every aspect of school life.”
ISI Inspection, 2025
Collaboration
We work closely with others for mutual enrichment, and encourage a spirit of generosity and service, a sense of perspective, and a firm belief that we can work in partnership with others, locally and internationally, to make a difference.
A Nurturing Environment
Children thrive when they feel happy, secure and supported, and our staff are dedicated to creating a nurturing, compassionate environment where individuals grow with confidence.
Developing Resilience
We promote emotional intelligence and resilience, teaching children the tools they need to navigate both school life and the world beyond it.
Community and Role Modelling
Our buddy and House systems reinforce positive role modelling, mentoring and community spirit, helping pupils look out for one another and understand the importance of empathy.
Spaces for Calm
Moments of calm are just as important as moments of energy. Our Science Garden, Outdoor Learning Area and Wellbeing Hub offer peaceful, nature‑filled spaces where children can reflect, decompress and feel grounded.
Children flourish when they learn in a safe, supportive environment where curiosity is celebrated. Our teachers bring each subject to life through genuine passion, expertise and warmth, helping children develop confidence and persistence.
The relaxed yet purposeful atmosphere of RGS Prep gives pupils the reassurance to take on challenges with optimism and determination. From science and DT to art, Spanish and music, subject specialists guide pupils through an enriching and stimulating curriculum. Achievements across the school are remarkable, driven by dedicated teachers and reinforced by workshops, guest speakers and inspiring trips that broaden each child’s learning.

WHAT WE INSPIRE
Preparation and practical work go hand in hand.
Practical learning, creativity and problem solving come together in our DT workshop, where pupils are encouraged to think like designers, engineers and innovators. They explore a wide range of materials and processes, from woodworking, metalwork and circuit building to laser cutting, CAD modelling and product design.
Throughout every project, pupils learn that planning, reflection and evaluation are just as important as the construction phase itself. They experiment, test ideas, make adjustments and gain confidence in turning concepts into functioning prototypes.
A variety of trips and hands on workshops introduce pupils to real world applications of design, helping them understand how innovation shapes the world around us and inspiring children to see themselves as creators as well as consumers.
Sport inspires every child to grow in confidence and courage.
Sport at RGS Prep is built on inclusivity, integrity and teamwork, ensuring that every pupil feels motivated to achieve their best. Children have the opportunity to represent both their House and the school across a busy timetable, taking part in a variety of sports spanning athletics, cricket, rugby, netball, tennis, hockey and swimming.
Regular fixtures, skill building sessions and inter House competitions help pupils develop resilience, sportsmanship and healthy habits that last well beyond their school years.
Our pupils benefit from excellent facilities both at RGS Prep as well as our outstanding 20 acre grounds at Bradstone Brook. Whether a child is discovering a new passion or honing existing skills, our programme ensures they grow in confidence and enjoy being active.
WHAT WE INSPIRE
Music is central to school life and a vibrant part of our community. Pupils explore a wide range of instruments from an early age and are encouraged to experiment, compose and perform as their confidence grows.
They take part in ensembles, choirs, orchestras and smaller chamber groups, allowing them to experience the joy of making music with others and developing a strong sense of discipline and collaboration.
Many of our young musicians achieve high level ABRSM examination results, participate in local and regional performance opportunities, or go on to join national youth groups.
Whether a pupil is a beginner or an advanced performer, our music programme nurtures creativity, expression and a lifelong appreciation of the arts.
WHAT WE INSPIRE
“There are so many performance opportunities. I am delighted with the confidence my child has gained and the progress they have made.”
RGS Prep Parent
Music fills the school every moment of the day.
An outlet for selfexpression and a source of sheer enjoyment.
Drama builds confidence, selfexpression and collaboration, and provides pupils a safe and imaginative space to explore who they are and how they communicate.
In our dedicated performance studio, pupils take part in a rich mix of theatre, movement, dance and visual arts, learning how to use voice, body language and emotion to bring characters and stories to life. They work together to devise scenes,
perform scripted pieces and present polished productions that showcase their growth and creativity.
Regular visits from theatre companies, drama specialists and music groups further deepen their understanding of performance and provide invaluable inspiration.
As pupils learn to take risks, support one another and celebrate individuality, they develop skills that strengthen every aspect of their academic and personal lives.
Our Art Studio is a vibrant, sensory environment where pupils are encouraged to express themselves freely and explore a wide variety of mediums. They learn about different artistic techniques, experiment with colour and form, and develop confidence in both observational and imaginative work.
Trips to galleries, artist workshops and cultural venues broaden their understanding of artistic traditions and contemporary practice, helping them appreciate the role of creativity in society. Through regular projects and exhibitions, pupils celebrate their achievements and develop pride in their artistic journey.

These experiences cultivate confidence and encourage pupils to explore the world in imaginative ways.
