Purpose and Legacy Reigate Grammar School was founded on Henry Smith’s philanthropy, a legacy that continues today at school and across the global Reigatian community.

During our Decade of Difference, we remain united by a shared commitment to opening doors of opportunity, widening access to education and broadening our impact in our local community.

Your Support for Bursaries Your support is opening the doors of an RGS education to talented young people who might otherwise never have the opportunity, changing lives and enriching our school community.

Since the launch of the Changing Lives, Building Futures campaign in October 2023, your generosity has transformed futures and made a lasting difference.

Nella’s Story

“I feel accepted just as I am.”

Nella* is currently in Upper School.

“Being in the junior girls' choir is one of the best parts of my life! I get to sing at so many amazing places - informal concerts, unplugged sessions, and even shows at Leatherhead Theatre and Queen Elizabeth Hall!

Whenever Mr Fenton’s letters arrive, I feel so proud, like I’m making my sponsor proud too. These experiences mean everything to me because they let me do more of what I love. Ellis’s Story Ellis Mekki (RGS 2006-2013) joined RGS on a full bursary, becoming the first in her family to continue in education beyond 16 - a lifechanging opportunity. She went on to read English Literature at the University of Cambridge.

Today, Ellis is Head of External Communications at the UK Ministry of Defence.

Michael’s Story Since leaving RGS, Michael Lloyd (RGS 1982-1986) has gone on to build a distinguished career in finance and, in a full-circle reflection of the support he once received, has given back by supporting two bursary students.

Michael is now Head of Convertible Securities Sales & Trading at Cantor Fitzgerald and lives in New York with his wife and daughter. He will return to RGS for his 40-Year Reunion in 2026.

“It seemed only natural to fund a second bursary” “I received an assisted place at RGS thanks to the generosity of a former pupil - the only one available at that time - providing an opportunity my family could not otherwise have afforded.

My time at the Grammar was transformative and completely changed the trajectory of my life, shaping my future through lasting friendships and opportunities. Knowing the impact of the RGS experience, it was important to me to share it with others in a similar situation and it seemed only natural to fund a second bursary.

It has been thrilling and gratifying to watch the recipients make the most of it. More than that though, it has been inspiring to see so many of my fellow former pupils come together in collective philanthropy to take the bursaries awarded from only one during my time to 155 at school today.”

Construction of the Andy Paul Sport and Activity Centre begins in summer 2026. Supported by significant School investment and a transformational gift from Andy Paul and his family, the centre will create new opportunities for sport, wellbeing and community engagement.

Together with the Careers Department, we are building stronger connections with employers to expand opportunities for work experience, internships and degree apprenticeships, helping students explore future pathways and broaden their networks.

Every gift, conversation and introduction helps build momentum behind Changing Lives, Building Futures, enabling more talented young people to access an RGS education and benefit from its transformative opportunities.

As part of our Decade of Difference, we are strengthening connections with charities and community organisations through networking events and collaboration, amplifying their work and broadening the social impact of the Reigatian community.
