There is no place more suitable for us to call home than the city of Philadelphia where new ideas birthed a new nation. Our new ideas are reimagining high school.

Through academic and real world experiences, we are breaking down the walls between learning and life to make learning relevant, and help students build critical human, cultural, social, and financial capital.

When you support Revolution School, you’re actively changing lives. Why did you choose Revolution? I joined Revolution School because of the promise of something new, something different from other schools I was interested in a learning process that was engaging and alive and that would help me get into a good college

What were your favorite experiences? Learning outside the classroom was the best thing about Revolution School I really got to know Philly and went to places I might not have ever gone There is so much to explore and experiencing it with friends and teachers makes it meaningful

How did Revolution prepare you for college? Revolution School forced me to be a go getter. I’m leaving with strong self advocacy skills. I’m ready and I know what I want.

No other school would have…Prepared me to be an individual that stands apart from the crowd.

I am eternally grateful…to my mentor Shadman Uddin who made such an impression on me and taught me so much He repeatedly asked me the question “What’s stopping you?”, encouraged me to use my time to follow my passions, and helped me reach my goals step-by-step

Through all of my experiences at Revolution School, I have learned…it’s about the people you know Having the opportunity to develop relationships —not just with teachers and peers — but with community members who can open eyes and open doors is invaluable. I’ve met so many cool people who will help me even in the future.

Stories OfUs

MARIA

What drew you to Revolution School? I went to a progressive, project based elementary school where there were really close student teacher relationships. When it came time to look for a high school, Revolution School was the only school in Philadelphia that offered a progressive experience.

What have you come to understand about yourself as a learner through your Revolution School experience? I really like working on projects, research, and presentations Being able to ask a lot of questions of teachers so I can really understand the why of what I'm learning is really crucial for me

What does breaking the walls down between learning and life look like at Revolution School? It starts with the connections we make with people in the community I love the real world aspect of what we learn, the people we're able to meet, and how those connections get layered as we work on real world problems.

What's different about Revolution School? Learning feels personal at Revolution School. Our teachers focus on current events that affect students' lives, and they are very willing to help us pursue what we're interested in. When I felt I needed more of a challenge in English, I was encouraged to enroll in a dual enrollment course at the Community College I was also able to audit the English class in school so I could read books and participate in class discussions

Through all of my experiences at Revolution School...I feel like I have a real seat at the table and that my opinions and experience matter These experiences have taught me how to better advocate for myself inside the school and outside as well
