En épocas de crisis no hay como bajar la guardia y desacelerar, ya que la competencia se nos puede adelantar.

Todos sabemos que el año 2015 ha sido muy complicado y el 2016 nos enfrenta a nuevos retos para sacar nuestros negocios adelante.

La sobre oferta de flor ha causado mucho daño a la economía de las fincas y de los importadores, ya que al estar los precios a la baja, toda la cadena se afecta.

La decisión de cerrar áreas de cultivo es muy dolorosa y difícil, pero necesaria cuando el negocio no aguanta más.

Son varias las fincas que se han visto obligadas a tomar esta medida, y otras han visto la oportunidad de absorber áreas para mejorar su posición en el mercado. Es la ley de la oferta y la demanda.

En el caso de las fincas ecuatorianas, los problemas externos, sumados a los problemas internos, ponen más vulnerables a las empresas, que deben sacar lo mejor de sus ejecutivos para ser imaginativos y seguir buscando los nichos de mercado que valoran la gran calidad y belleza de nuestra flor. No es la primera vez que afrontamos esta situación y hemos sabido salir adelante. Ánimo, tenemos el mundo entero, para llegar con nuestras flores, sabemos que tenemos un producto de muy alta calidad, y en los países grandes hay una porción de la población que no se ve afectada por la crisis económica .

Cómo hacer para llegar a esos nichos de mercado? Ese es el reto.

We all know that 2015 has been very complicated year and 2016 makes us face new challenges to draw our business forward.

The oversupply of flowers has caused a lot of damage upon the economy of both flower producing farms and importers, since prices are having a falling tendency, the entire chain is affected.

The decision to close growing areas is very painful and difficult, but necessary when the business can no longer stand.

There are several farms which have been compelled to take this measure, and others have viewed the opportunity to absorb areas in order to enhance their market position.

It’s the law of supply and demand.

In the case of Ecuadorian flower growing farms, external problems, combined with internal problems, allow greater vulnerability within businesses, which must bring out the best of their executives in order to be more imaginative and to continue striving for those market niches that value the high quality and beauty our flower. It is not the first time that we face this situation and we have been able to move forward.

Cheer up; we have the whole world to reach to with our flowers. We know that we have a product that holds very high quality, and in the large countries there is a part of the population that is unaffected by the economic crisis. How to get to these market niches? That is the challenge.

Paradigmas de la bioestimulación

Sin duda, la bioestimulación y la lucha contra el estrés es una herramienta fundamental para producir MÁS y MEJOR con menos insumos y menos impacto ambiental.

Los principales objetivos y necesidades en una correcta gestión de la nutrición, van más allá de la mera aportación de nutrientes y buscan diferentes objetivos tales como precocidad, desarrollo radicular, evitar deficiencias y problemas fisiológicos, mayor rendimiento, calidad, óptima floración, cuajado y fructificación entre otros objetivos.

El estrés abiótico en las plantas es producido por alteraciones de factores ambientales, fenológicos u otras condiciones adversas como fitotoxicidad, tratamientos fitosanitarios intensivos, entre otros factores.

De nada sirve aportar nutrientes si la planta no tiene una buena asimilación radicular y translocación interna de los mismos. Para ello es fundamental conseguir una buena biodisponibilidad de los nutrientes aportados.

Estas alteraciones adversas hacen que el cultivo entre en una fase de alarma y se desencadenen procesos de adaptación que, de no ser suficientes, podrían acabar con la muerte de la planta.

El estrés abiótico causado por condiciones ambientales tales como heladas, temperatura, salinidad, sequía, iluminación entre otros factores; tiene un fuerte impacto en la fisiología de la planta y en consecuencia en rendimiento y calidad.

Sí la planta es capaz de superarlas, entra en una fase de resistencia gracias a su capacidad de adaptación. Finalmente aparece una fase de agotamiento que puede desencadenar la muerte de la planta si el estrés supera su capacidad de resistencia (Figura 1).

En este sentido la bioestimulación se muestra como una herramienta de enorme importancia.

Las pérdidas de rendimiento de las cosechas debido a factores abióticos, resultan muy significativas si comparamos los rendimientos medios de los cultivos con el potencial productivo que se deriva de su potencial genético. En algunos cultivos, las pérdidas debido a factores climáticos adversos pueden superar el 75 %.

Si reducimos el estrés en el cultivo conseguimos que la fisiología de la planta funcione adecuadamente y obtendremos mejores resultados. Combatir el estrés ayuda a potencializar la producción y la calidad y por 8

En estas condiciones la respuesta de la planta frente al estrés es muy variada, con alto coste energético y con impacto en el crecimiento (inhibición de la germinación, reducción del crecimiento, senescencia prematura, menos rendimiento), fisiológico (reducción de absorción de agua y nutrientes, alteraciones en la tasa de transpiración, reducción de fotosíntesis, alteración de la respiración, asimilación neta negativa), biología molecular (reducción de la síntesis de proteínas, reducción de la actividad enzimática, desorganización de membranas celulares, entre otros).

En este sentido las sustancias con efecto bioestimulante son herramientas muy potentes que nos permiten ayudar de forma efectiva a la planta a superar estas condiciones adversas y por tanto permitiendo un funcionamiento correcto de su metabolismo primario, con impacto en su capacidad de rentabilidad y supervivencia.

Hay muchas sustancias que pueden ser consideradas bioestimulantes. Los Amino ácidos (AA) y extractos de algas son unos de los más utilizados.

Los AA son moléculas orgánicas que contienen carbono (C), grupos carboxílicos (-COOH) y grupo amino (-NH2) y son de enorme importancia para la vida. Se pueden considerar como “bloques de la vida” por su papel esencial en procesos tan importantes como la síntesis de proteínas, como precursores y regulador de hormonas, ahorro de energía, fotosíntesis y metabolismo primario.

El aporte de AA supone un ahorro energético muy importante ya que permite a la planta disponer de los elementos necesarios para su adaptación y lucha contra el estrés sin necesidad de sintetizarlos y por tanto, con un ahorro energético importante que la hace más efectiva.

Pero para ello los AA deben ser L-α-aminoácidos ya que son los únicos biológicamente activos.

Este es un factor esencial en la calidad de las soluciones basadas en AA. Por otro lado, es importante disponer de un aminograma completo y bien balanceado ya que, aunque todos los AA son importantes en la síntesis de proteínas, cada uno tiene funciones diferentes (Figura 2).

De forma general, los principales beneficios del uso de AA son: 1, efecto anti estrés; 2, efecto bioestimulante; 3, ahorro de energía; 4, acción rápida y 5, potenciar la asimilación de nutrientes.

Hay muchos tipos de algas utilizadas en agricultura, con diferentes propósitos y componentes activos. Desatacan Ascophyllum nodosum, Laminaria digitata, Macrocystis pyrifera, Sargassum spp., Ecklonia máxima entre otras.

Ascophyllum nodosum pertenece a la familia de las algas marrones y se desarrolla en el hemisferio norte, en el océano Atlántico. Las principales áreas son Canadá, Bretaña e Irlanda (Figura 3).

Es importante resaltar que el entorno donde se desarrolla Ascophyllum nodosum está sometido a la acción de las mareas, lo que hace que sea un entorno altamente estresante para el alga al tener que vivir fuera y dentro del agua de forma cíclica y diaria. Esto hace que este tipo de alga, a diferencia de otras, ha desarrollado una gran cantidad de principios activos anti estrés que le permiten sobrevivir.

Por ello, el extracto de algas Ascophyllum nodosum a parte de su efecto nutricional, proporciona un significativo efecto bioestimulante a través de una gran cantidad de principios activos entre los que destacan alginatos, manitol, poliscáridos, laminarina, polifenoles entre otros.

Esto convierte al extracto de Ascophyllum nodosum en una excelente solución anti estrés proporcionando: Alta resistencia al frente al estrés osmótico (sequía, salinidad y helada) Alto contenido en osmolitos compatibles Mantiene la actividad fotosíntética Actividad antioxidante – Destoxificación Estimulación radicular Mayor vigor Mejor floración y cuajado Mejor calidad y rendimiento Pero para conseguir estos efectos es esencial mantener los principios activos de las algas en el producto final. En este sentido, el proceso de extracción es esencial.

Actualmente hay dos sistemas de extracción, uno a altas temperatura (T) y otro a baja T. El sistema tradicional somete al alga a T superior a 100 ºC y se extraen los compuestos mediante una extracción alcalina. El resultado es un producto de color negro y pH alcalino. Las altas T pueden desnaturalizar o incluso eliminar parte de los principios activos presentes en el alga natural.

Los sistemas de extracción a baja T someten al alga a presión para obtener los principios activos. Al ser un proceso respetuoso con los componentes presentes en las algas, se obtiene 12

un líquido de color verde-marrón con una concentración elevada de principios activos y pH 5.5. Se trata de un jugo de algas totalmente natural (Figura 4).

Los principios activos no son destruidos al ser un proceso a bajas T y el pH es alrededor de 5.5, óptimo para la penetración foliar.

APLICACIÓN DE LA TÉCNICA AGROMETEOROLÓGICA GRADOS DIA DE CRECIMIENTO GDC EN EL SECTOR FLORICULTOR Dario Velez Bernal Magíster en Gerencia de Proyectos Master en Evaluación Ambiental Docente Universitario

El estudio de la relación existente entre los elementos meteorológicos y la vida de las plantas es fundamental para aumentar la producción y/o reducir los daños en el agro, para mejorar la producción tanto en cantidad como en calidad.

Concomitante a esta idea se ha notado la seria aplicación de la Agrometeorología en el establecimiento de cultivos no tradicionales como flores, brócoli, tomate de árbol, espárragos, etc. con resultados que van entre muy buenos y excelentes.

Una de las técnicas que los productores de flores deben manejarlo, para planificar con efectividad el volumen de tallos se van o se deben cosechar en determinadas fechas y programar las prácticas adecuadas de manejo de sus cultivos y así concentrar la producción en tales periodos, es determinar el grado día de crecimiento GDC o GDD en español e Inglés respectivamente, que tiene el cultivo de flores, técnica que se basa en un análisis de la cantidad de temperatura (sensación de calor) que recibe el cultivo durante sus diferentes etapas del ciclo vegetativo.

Es difícil calcular la contribución económica de la Agrometeorología a las finanzas de una nación, pero a diario nos podemos dar cuenta al analizar los informes económicos en el rubro de la exportación de productos agropecuarios hacia el mundo, inclusive superando el rubro de exportación del petróleo.

También la contribución de esta herramienta se percibe al evaluar las pérdidas evitadas por una advertencia agrometeorológica oportuna.

De este modo, el estudio del clima de una región dada llega a ser tan importante como el estudio de sus suelos, sus recursos hidrológicos, sus bosques, etc. Ya que no existe relación más estrecha que la existente entre el clima y la productividad agrícola.

El Ecuador ha sido, es y será un país eminentemente agrícola, por ende toda técnica que se aplique

en pos de mejorar la calidad y cantidad de sus productos agropecuarios será el aporte de la Agrometeorología y el norte para convertirnos en un país desarrollado.

En este aspecto la Agrometeorología puede suministrar a los Floricultores, advertencias oportunas sobre la ocurrencia del fenómeno y recomendaciones sobre las formas de reducir los daños provocados por fenómenos meteorológicos.

La predicción de la helada es, en esencia una predicción de la temperatura mínima que se presentará en las primeras horas del día siguiente para lo cual se agrega el análisis sobre el tipo y estado de desarrollo de los posibles cultivos que serán afectados.

Grados de Crecimiento (GDC).- se define como el número de grados de temperatura por encima de un cierto umbral de temperatura base, que varía

Tecnitips Tecnitips especies. Aunque las temperaturas como el de 32 ° y 42 ° F también se utiliza a veces, dependiendo el cultivo a la variedad.

Por ejemplo, un día con una máxima de 23 ° C y una mínima de 12 ° C contribuiría 7,5 GDC.

Un día con un máximo de 13 ° C y una mínima de 10 ° C contribuiría 1,5 GDC.

En casos o días en que la temperatura máxima del día se levanta por encima de la temperatura de la base, entonces no se produce el desarrollo, y cero grados-día se acumulan.

GDC se calcula tomando el promedio de las temperaturas diarias, máximas y mínimas en comparación con una temperatura base, (generalmente 10 ° C ó 50 °F). Como una ecuación: GDD = Growing Degree Days o GDC.

Predecir el crecimiento de las plantas basadas en el calendario, no es el adecuado técnicamente ya que las temperaturas pueden variar considerablemente de año en año. En su lugar, cada vez más la técnica de días-grado, que se basan en las temperaturas reales, son un simple método y estrategia precisa para predecir cuando una planta en determinada etapa producirá.

GDC se puede utilizar para: evaluar la idoneidad de una región para la producción de un cultivo específico; estimar el crecimiento de las etapas de los cultivos, las malas hierbas o incluso etapas de la vida de los insectos; predecir madurez y fechas de corte de los cultivos florícolas; predecir mejor momento de fertilizante o la aplicación de plaguicidas; estimar el estrés térmico en los cultivos; plan de separación de las fechas de siembra para producir fechas de cosecha por separado; y en general para efectuar un manejo técnico de los invernaderos de flores, controlando adecuadamente tanto estrés o excesos hídricos o térmicos

Cualquier temperatura por debajo de T base, se establece al calcular la T. media. Asimismo, la temperatura máxima es generalmente limitada a 30 ° C ó 86 ° F, porque la mayoría de las plantas y los insectos no crecen más rápido por encima de esa temperatura. Sin embargo, algunas plantas de regiones templadas y tropicales tienen requisitos importantes para los días por encima de 30 ° C para madurar los frutos o semillas.

La experiencia ha demostrado que el 50 ° F es una temperatura base razonable para muchas

En Bogotá, del 28 al 30 de Octubre se realizó esta importante feria del sector floricultor.

La fecha no fue la mejor para la realización de este evento, dada la cercanía de las ferias de Holanda, pero las circunstancias del cambio de sede obligó a esta variación.

Una feria en donde hubo más de 6000 visitantes, 350 expositores, más de 1000 compradores que llegaron, hizo quesea una magnifica feria, en donde se pudieron cerrar muchos negocios para las fechas de navidad y el Valentín 2016.
